Eggs, pest control (they’re excellent mousers, and fantastic, chemical free bug/spider control..no grasshoppers eating my veggies and flowers!) fertilizer for my veggie garden, and they aerate the grass too, (plus they completely get my garden cleaned up and tilled in the fall, so it’s ready for spring planting)... and simply because they’re straight up entertaining, and they’re beautiful! They’re hilarious with my dogs- (they OWN this property, and the dogs, and everyone else, are only semi-welcome guests- when the girls are in the mood. Haha!)
I can’t imagine not having a few scratching around out there! I’m a firm believer that the world would be a much better place if everyone owned a chicken or two!

I just noticed your avatar. I think my kids need that on a shirt.

You can actually buy shirts that have that on it! I have one. Just google that saying and you will come up with lots of companies that sell that shirt. Mens, womans, and kids sizes.

Haha! Too funny... I just swiped the picture, and saved it for future use! Thought I’d seen them all- but that’s a new one! Apparently I’m not the only one who thought so!

Depends on which member of my family you ask. My husband will answer eggs. He calls the girls minions of “his egg barony”. LOL! He sells the extra eggs at work and eat the vast majority of what we keep.

My daughter would say pets and showing as she is getting into 4-H with her 3 chickens.

I would say pets. I find them entertaining and enjoy just hanging out with them while they free range. Today I watched a 10 minute marathon sprint/chase when my favorite EE girl caught a grasshopper and all of the other girls wanted it. My husband finds it funny that they are my favorite pet.

ditto, though mine have a habit of flinging fallen leaves etc over the nearest metre of lawn, making it look messy rather than clean  but boy does everything grow well :clap and they are great fun to watch :D
