What do you "waste" money on???

At one point in our married lives we wasted money like nobody business, but I was working then. I was working as an RN on a weekend shift, which meant really good money. I work 12 hr shifts Sat and Sun, then again Weds. I still maintain my liscence, but haven't been employed outside the home in 6 yrs.

When I worked we had a lot of money, but also a lot of debt. We ate out a lot and gained a lot of weight. Life was really stressful, I was always exhausted as I had an 8 y/o, 2 y/o and was pg. I was homeschooling. Then, I became very ill and was unable to return to work. Praise God!

We lost almost everything, but not the things like mattered life my marriage, family and my life. I almost lost those due to work and the subsequent illness.

Now, we live in rent....albeit a nice place in the country. I stay home raising 4 children, being a wife, teacher, maid, chef, laundress, farmer. We eat as close to whole food as possible and I grow as much food as possible. What I can't grow I buy, but our bread starts as grain that I grind, our peaches are canned by us etc.

We really have to juggle and be very frugal with every cent. I don't have money to waste. When we do eat out I don't enjoy it because I could have cooked it better, cheaper and heathier.

Any money I do have to spend is spent on more chickens (they give great return), alpacas (also meant to bring in revenue), homeschooling material, maybe books that teach me how to be more self sufficient, healthy (but ones I can't get from the library), a nice lip balm now and then....

What I'd really love to have money for are things such as our own place with a bit of acreage, a trailer for hauling hay, music lessons for the kids, classes at the "Y" for the kids, skirts for me and some nice clothes for the girls (my sons couldn't care less), a piece of equiptment that would haul poop and such, plow, make hay etc (maybe a 4-wheeler w/accessories?). We do need money for fencing. I would really like to go on a family vacation, but I doubt we could find a place without vulgarity and naked bodies everywhere. So, I guess will camp on the farm.

At least then, I wouldn't have to worry about my animals!

Waste money??? My horses eat feed and hay $$$$$$$. They serve no really useful purpose other than to save my sanity. 3 dogs, big, eat a 50# bag of food a month. They also serve no useful purpose except to love us unconditionally and we love them back. 2 hens eat a 50# bag of layena and it lasts a loooooong time, plus they eat leftovers, kitchen trimmings and stuff from the garden that we wouldn't eat anyway. In return, they lay eggs and provide us with amusement. Oops, forgot. The horses poop a lot and I scoop the poop and compost it for our garden. So I guess they DO have a useful purpose. Waste money???? I think not. As far as shopping at the mall, I would rather run my foot through the meat grinder. Those fancy clothes don't last long stomping through the mud anyway.

Aside from my chickens, I collect Pokémon toys. Most people see it as a waste of money, but to me it isn't. It's a fun and rewarding hobby, I have made more friends all around the world collecting than I have with any other hobby, and I usually fund my collection by reselling extra items from the auctions I buy. Plus, I hold on to some items while they accrue value. Just yesterday I sold a plush I bought for $25 for $120.

I've been really thinking about the question and reading all the posts, but I don't really think "waste" money on much of anything. I don't count chickens and pets as a waste, especially because I live alone and they are my livelihood. Plus their eggs, which saves me money. I mean, of course I spend more on my chickens than I get from eggs, but I still just don't see chickens as a waste....

So what else do I "waste" money on? I buy a lot of books. I literally have thousands of books, a whole library, but I read them all and learn valuable things from them. None of them are even fiction, it's all medical, history, self-sufficient living, etc., so I don't really see books as a waste either....

Um.... Okay, someone mentioned potato chips. I do splurge on potato chips, that's about it for junk food, I suppose that's a waste.

I do like to buy tools, but only when needed and I always use them again, so again, I don't think that's a waste....

I don't go out to eat, I don't go out drinking, heck, I hardly socialize. So no money wasted there....

Every year I allow myself to treat myself to one "big" thing on my credit card, it's the only time I use a credit card. I splurge on something I've been wanting..... THIS year it was a waste, because if anyone read my thread about my company from hell last month, they'll know I spent this year's credit card splurge on buying him an official Red Sox jersey and all he did was run up my bills and drive me crazy and I had to throw him out.... so that was definitely a WASTE.

Guess that's it? Seems like I must waste money on something else, but I can't think what right now.

What do I waste money on? My dogs, my pigeons, and the Princess. Dogs: feed and vet expenses for 15 dogs, I handle the routine a trip to the vet's is for emergency. Add in entry fees and travel and accommodations at field trials.

Pigeons: 12 months of feed and care for maybe 5 months of seeing them fly.

The Princess? I guess she's a necessity.

I don't have money to waste. Used to, but those days are gone....I don't miss them either. We were a bit spoiled and some of us were getting obnoxious

I did just buy some goats, but they provide. Anything that provides, isn't wasteful IMO. Now my dogs.....probably a waste, they do protect my flocks but the puppy has chewed a bunch of stuff

maybe she'll be worth her feed bill before long. Big dog is very worth hers, possibly enough for her and the "mutt in training."

I "waste" a lot of money on movies. I love to buy them every now and then, especially the $5 bargain ones. A lot of my favorite movies are older ones from the '90s and I can get them for $5 or less. I've been trying to build up my collection because I'll be moving out of my parents' house in four or five years after I finish up my grad schooling. I probably have about 50 movies or so, but I'd love to have a nice big collection some day! I also have a lot of older movies like The Blob and The Incredible Mr. Limpet because I'd like my kids to watch them someday!

DH wastes money on hunting/fishing. Don't get me wrong, I love the fresh meat and I hunt/fish also, but he has to have the biggest, best, latest technology and gear.

I waste money on the animals...investing in show/milking goats this year.
