What do you wear on your feet in your coop area?

Quote:

Like the OP and dragging in poop on your shoes.
I got real tired of coming back in the house with snow up to my knees- wet pants, socks, shoes, and floor. One day I just pulled off the socks rolled up the pants and walked out there. For the few minutes I was out in the snow, I surprisingly did not get cold. So that is now standard practice here.
I don't have to walk into the coop or run to feed or clean up after them, so I don't need to worry about poop.
The only exception is if the snow is frozen hard. I don't want to cut up my feet.

I thought I was the only one who did this!

We live in Mn, and I run outside barefoot pretty much daily, when I let the dogs out our front door to their "designated run area". Ice isn't much fun, and as you stated, sharp snow can hurt, but plain old snow really doesn't hurt or feel uncomfortable unless I'm out for too long. And I feel like I have better traction. I just brush off my feet when I come in and tuck them back into my warm slippers!
This will be our first winter with chickens. I'll have to see if this works out the back door as well is does for the front!

Tennis shoes, or.......

Barefoot.

LoL. I have 28 Bantams in a 16x16 coop, there really is NOT that much poop, except under the roosts. And my birds don't have runny poos so the floor stays dry, anything I pick up will be gone by the time I walk through the grass back up to the house. Now, naturally if I have any kind of cut or scrap on my foot, the tennis shoes are the way to go, also if I'm gonna be hanging out down there, but just a quick trip in and out to drop off something, Barefoot. I hate shoes.

I guess I need more chickens, poop just really is NOT a problem in my coop, it dries out and gets crumbled up and mixed into the litter on the floor long before it can accumulate and become nasty. And my coop floor stays dry, dry, dry. THAT"S IT! That's my justification for getting more chickens, my coop is TOO clean, lol

crocs for me. Every once in a while I dash in for my one little egg (I walk on sand) barefoot.

I have a pair of Crocs brand flats that dont have holes in them. They're basically made of some sort of like foamy plastic so they're waterproof and washable. Our chickens free range so I wear them anytime I go out and slip them off before I head back into the house.
