What does »follow« actually mean? 🦆

Hi Friends,

what does it actually means if you »follow« somebody or if somebody is »following« you here on BYC?
Does it mean that i get a notification when something is posted from the account i follow?
If yes, that is definitely not working, i have missed a lot of posts from people i follow and i was not notified. Or did i miss something in the settings?

I personally just think it’s for following members who are your friends, etc, that way you can easily access their profile. But I’m not sure!

I believe if you go to your news feed it shows you what the people you're following have posted.

If you don't follow anyone, there won't be any posts in your news feed.

No, you don't get an alert every time someone posts that you follow. Like FluffTheDuck said, it's just something that you do to be nice/keep in touch with your friends, etc.

OK, so far i have not even looked into my »personal news feed« before.
What is the difference between the personal news-feed and the alerts?

One shows the posts of those you are following....and the other does not

Your personal news feed will include things from people you follow that you may not be following yourself, like for example...

If I comment on a media post by chrissynemetz it would show up in your news feed but not your notifications unless you've also commented on the same media.
