What does »follow« actually mean? 🦆

Hi Friends,

what does it actually means if you »follow« somebody or if somebody is »following« you here on BYC?
Does it mean that i get a notification when something is posted from the account i follow?
If yes, that is definitely not working, i have missed a lot of posts from people i follow and i was not notified. Or did i miss something in the settings?

I believe if you go to your news feed it shows you what the people you're following have posted.

Wait wait wait..... There's a personal news feed on this site?

I've been here for years. (admittedly I can be rather stunned... a lot of the time...) But I don't think I know about a personal news feed.

I use Follow for a few reasons.

1. To know when the people I chat with are online.
2. for easy access to their profile
3. Since I've locked my profile page, to give them access to my profile.

As far as I'm aware unless I go to their profile and look at their recent posts, I don't see what they're doing.

I didn't know either until today. But if you click on your profile name in the top right corner, there is a spot that says news feed, you can click on that.

I don't think anyone said anything about a chatroom. Chat threads were mentioned, though.

I don't follow anyone......this shows (I think) that the news feed is only for that purpose.

I don't use the news feed or officially follow anyone, but I scan thru the new posts every day and often participate in new-to-me threads, meeting new people and learning/sharing all kinds of new stuff. I watch those threads that I'm interested in.
