What does everyone think of the egg carton method?

Thanks, Rebel, I am going to try it this time! During the last (also my first) hatch, the chicks that hatched, flopped all over and moved the other eggs around and it really worried me that they were going to kill the other chicks that hadn't hatched yet... I think the egg carton idea will limit some of my stress this time, lol. Thanks again!

We use eggs carton for every hatch with great success.

Current carton, trimmed, loaded and currently in the bator aboutnhalf way through the incubation now.

I do have to say, I am still alittle worried what would happen if one pipped on the wrong side! Do any of you know what would happen if that happened? Im going to try it either way.

your bator looks deep i have an LG (still air)can i use this method and just raise on side then the other a few times a day or do you think that the turned is better for the frist 18 days?

I used cartons the last time I hatched and personally I think that flats would work better than cartons since the flats are not as tall as the cartons and the chicks can't get close to the heating element. That was the only problem I had with the cartons. The chicks would stand on the other eggs and then get close enough to the heat to burn themselves. Other than that it worked fine. I did have one pip low on the egg and it just kind of made a crooked zip after it pipped and got out of the egg fine.

I use the plastic egg carton that I buy from Cutler Supply...I use it in my King Suro 20 incubator and it works great...Easy to disinfect and has plenty of air flow...

ETA: You can cut them to fit your incubator!

We have our first batch of eggs in a carton, a recycled paper type carton, not foam. I was worried I shouldn't use it but people tell me its just fine. I did cut holes out of the bottom to get good air flow and no build up of condensation. Crossing fingers for something to hatch this week.
