What DONT your chickens like

My girls turn their nose at lettuce, melon, and flaxseed...however the other day I mixed up some nasty stuff and they couldn't get enough! I heard they need protein so I mixed up some scrammbled eggs, yogurt, raisins, cooked carrots and tuna fish, with a little oatmeal to thicken it up. It was so gross looking but they loved it!

My girls don't like anything citrus. They also left all of the sweet potato peelings (are those bad for them like the regular potatoes?)

They love and fight over all cheese and meat though.

Rice is another favorite here.

Mine are pretty much just like all the others on here, they love everything!!! The one thing the do not like is celery, but everything else, they love. Most favorite is grapes, throw some of those in the coop and the fight is on

Our two Silkies won't eat any treats we happen to be feeding the other chickens at the time. If we try to toss them bread crumbs or cereal, they run, ducking, like the sky is falling. It is really funny to watch. The rest of our chickens love just about everything (watermelon their favorite) except dry catfood (ewwww), and lettuce (what are we supposed to do with this????)

My hens do not like any kind of herb. I have a lot of mint and marjoram growing throughout my yard. They wont touch it.

They love cooked peas and corn. Leftovers always go to them that way there are no nasty science experiments growing in my fridge.

mine have not liked blackberries or green peppers. cucumbers they'll eat somewhat, but are not big fans of them, same goes for pumpkins. so far they LOVE tomatoes and watermelons. we grew both and the ones that have bug spots or are otherwise inedible for humans, i toss down there, they go crazy for that. today i'm going to toss them some pumpkin swirl bread that i made and it didn't quite turn out right, so we'll see how that goes over.

a funny thing with the blackberries, i didn't like them, they tasted sour to me, so i gave them to the chickens. i have never had chicken commentary on a food before, they *hated* them (except one weird chick who loved them). they'd take a bite, turn, look at me and then start frantically rubbing their beaks on the ground as if they were trying to get the taste out of their mouths.

they crack me up!!

I call mine little goats. They eat anything that I put in there. They've had cataloupe, cooked rice, spaghetti, tomatoes (raw, cooked) beans from the garden, corn from the garden, they've even eaten a jalapeno that got mixed up in the scraps. Watermelon, almost anything that I give them, they eat. lol... They seem to prefer the cantaloupe though. I had around 18 plants this year, so I've had plenty to give them! I've seen no ill effects of this varied diet. They do see me coming and now run to the door of the yard inanticipation of whatever I have. I used to throw out a lot of leftovers from dinner, but now most all of it goes to them.... (except fried chicken.... that would just be wrong!! lol)

Mine will eat most everything, they prefer frozen or raw veggies over the cooked ones. If they are cooked, they'll eat it, but usually look at me first like "Great, thanks, stupid human!" then start nibbling at it.

I grill often and one time I accidentally dropped a small piece of meat on the ground when the chickens were nearby and they fought over it. Now when I come out of the house with my grilling utensils and a platter full of meat, they can't seem to get to me fast enough, even running over each other in hopes to reach me first, to see if I drop any grilled meat.

Now the thing I noticed they hated........Mushrooms!!!!! We had a garden salad with dinner, and I threw out the leftovers, they pecked at everything except the mushrooms. One hen picked up a piece, immediately dropped it and as she walked away from it, she paused long enough to poop right on the piece she dropped!!! Coincidence? I don't know, but it was really funny, like she was telling me that was all mushrooms were good for!

My b/f agreed with her!!!

My crew LOVE grapes- they'll start leaping up and down when they see me bring them in...

Lettuce, cherry tomatoes, blueberries, most weeds, nectarine, apple, watermelon, grass are all hits.

Don't like honeydew or banana.

Hope the fruit = no eggs theory isn't true- I want my eggs! but my chickies want their fruit...
