We use 20% medicated chick starter/grower from Farmer's Feed Mill in Lexington, KY. The brand name is "Hallway Feeds." They're the official feed supplier of the National Thoroughbred Racing Association and seem to focus mainly these days on the big $$$ thoroughbred industry worldwide (you can get Hallway Feed products in sixteen states and nine countries!), but at the heart of the operation...they're still a good ol' fashioned feed mill.
They still manufacture feed for almost anything you can raise -- sheep, goats, cattle, horses, pigs, poultry, etc -- and I'm lucky enough to be able to pick it up right from the loading dock at the mill. As big as that place is, they're just as helpful and friendly to me when I go in to buy one bag of chick starter as they are to the next guy who comes in and buys a few tons of specialty racing feed.. It's a really, really neat place, and I just can't say enough about how nice everyone there is. And, no, I don't work there.
They beat everybody else on goat feed by at least $3 a bag, but the chick starter/grower is $13.25, which is right about what DuMor costs.. I've had a little bad experience with DuMor goat feed, though, so there's little doubt in my mind that the Hallway is a better quality feed -- and it's medicated for the same money as the DuMor.
I also get my shavings there...a 12cubic foot plastic wrapped bale for about $6.50. That's more than twice the cubic footage of the
TSC shavings, for about the same money. The bale's the same size, too -- just heavier.
Did I mention that I really, really like Farmer's Feed Mill? It's one of my favorite places in the world....
