I have 15 chicks that are five and half weeks old. 2 are lavendar orphingtons. 6 are light sussex and 7 coronation sussex. Trying to figure out how many roos I have. Is this possible at this age? I will post pictures. If anyone can help. Thank you.

At around 6 weeks old you can take a good guess as to who is what so post some photos showing the whole chicken side on. Yours are about old enough now.

Here's a picture of the two lavendars. One has a reddish comb the other more pink cream color comb.

Wow. Thank you. How can u tell ? Is it by the comb or feathers or both.
How you can tell, is, at around six+ weeks, any bird with a pink/red comb, is a cockerel. (a pullet will have a light orange/peachy color. Cockerels also may have little red wattles developing. If u still aren't sure, at around twelve weeks+, cockerels will develop pointy/long hackle (neck), saddle (at the base of the tail, going down on either side), and sometimes the tail will have feathers that start curling downward. Don't get scared when around twenty weeks old, the pullets will get bigger, redder combs. That just means they are getting ready to lay! Hope this helps.
