I am glad someone finally addressed this. I, too, have felt the same way. Hopefully this too shall pass.
I agree, think before you post. If you post requesting advice or help, don't bug the moderators to delete or lock the thread because you don't like the answers you get from other members.
We have recently lost some informative members due to the childishness that goes on.
Let's get back to chickens. I love it when we do a hatch watch, or a newbie asks a question that I had often wondered about.
And love your moderators. We are here at someone's else's invitation. It would be a good idea to remember this forum is supported financially by someone other than us and the moderators are volunteers. If they want to lock a thread, that is their call. If you want more free reign on language, personal attacks and so forth, start your own forum.

I am a newbie with this board and chickens in general. I love this board and have been on it a lot. I have never felt intimidated to post a question and have learned so much. I built my coop and run around advice on here. I read all the posts I can to learn as much as I can before my babies arrive. The girls and I would probably not have babies coming if it wasn't;t for this board.
When we have a question we use the search and go from there. I have seen a few posts that could have been friendlier but with everything you take the good and useful and try to ignore the rest.
I am thankful for all the info. on here. I have been told all kinds of things about chickens (they stink, you'll be sorry, roosters are only good for slaughter, etc.) when I get a comment like that I come on here and see what you all have to say. Then I think ha. they say diff. My chickens will be awesome and the girls and I forge ahead.

Oh I picked the kind of chickens to get from advice on here Plymouth rocks Barred, buff, partridge, and white
I didn't even know there were diff. kinds LOL:p

I'm not being a jerk here, but I think if you start reading a thread and you don't like the way it's going........use the mouse and click;)

People are going to have different views on things and people are going to argue. Its a fact of life whether we like it or not. Personally I think it is sometimes interesting to see different points of view. As long as is done without name calling and with respect. Once a thread turns "ugly" I stop reading it.
As far as ANY message board I've ever been on this is by far the friendliest and most helpful.

I love this site -- it's the only place, and you're the only people I can "TALK CHICKEN" with 24/7!!!

Sometimes people can get very opinionated, and sometimes
people can be having just a 'really bad day'.
If I see a thread that seems to be getting a little heated, I just think of JerseyGiantSoldier's signature:

"I may disagree with what you have to say, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it."

I think we can all express our opinions, but we have to know where to draw the line so it doesn't seem we are trying to force our opinions on others!!

Yes schmoo, you hit the hammer on the head with the nail!!!
Im a vegetarian, earthmother type.
I see lots of threads with headings referring to meatbirds, dogstrikes, culled predators etc and I use the mouse!!
But really, i feel that it is threads like these that stir up tempers again and keep the coals red!!!!lets all forgive and forget and get back to what we love best, ChickensXXXXX

I have had my chickens only a couple of months and just finished my first coop - I built it and was so happy to tell everyone on here - there is no other place that a group of people would get just as happy to see a chicken coop as me !! I love this site and I know I would not still have my chickens if I could not come here and ask a million newbie questions. I normally stay out of post that look like they are turning ugly and stop reading.
I trust everyones advice on here and love seeing other pictures of chickens( i did not know there where so many diff. breeds).
I will stay here as long as I have chickens and loving it every minute.

If you post requesting advice or help, don't bug the moderators to delete or lock the thread because you don't like the answers you get from other members.

Keep in mind, too, that just because you give VERY GOOD ADVICE, you shouldn't get mad because someone doesn't take it. All you can do is offer advice. You can advise against overcrowding, wire-bottomed coops, using chicken wire to keep out predators, and feeding only chicken scratch rather than a balanced feed, but they don't have to listen to you no matter how "right" you think you are... so it doesn't pay to get angry.

You can explain why you think yours is a good idea so other members can make their own judgments based on the information, but that's all you can do.

Keeping a happy board requires that

1) You're aware you're going to hear all sorts of opinions in the forum
2) You're aware that some people won't choose the "best" course, in your opinion
3) There's enough good information being shared so that members can make their own decisions
4) Preferences should not be an issue up for debate. By preferences, I mean no REAL rancor (teasing goes on all the time
wink.png
) should occur when you discover someone has different preferences when it comes to preferring RIRs to Faverolles, buff to blue, Purina to Honor, urban to rural, fall to spring, extroversion to introversion, or anything else. It would be very silly to get everyone angry about what the BEST favorite color should be.

If it's a matter of preference, simply respect someone's right to have one. It's really hard to "defend" your favorite color... because it's a matter of preference, not a matter of life and death.

Way to go windy, hey Mods, I think you have another perfect mod candidate here!!!!
I think that from now on if I see a thread which seems to be something that could have been pm'ed to the mods I will scroll down and let it pass. Im gonna stick to chicken stuff from now on.
Have a great day youall.XX

Jees, I feel really ignorant. I haven't seen anything mean or nasty since I joined. I must not read the threads your all talking about. Or just don't notice deleted stuff. I can't imagine name calling here. Everyone I've seen has been nothing but helpful and kind. I would be in trouble without all the info here. I'm sad to think people are name calling. If someone is being highly inappropriate can they be banned from the site?
