Did you write that she was new to laying? Can't recall, sorry, but maybe you've gotten an egg-within-an-egg. I got one the first week mine began laying and it was unbelievably huge.
As for the blood, sometimes they either catch themselves on something sharp, or were pecked in a way that healed so that might not make you notice right away. One of mine had her comb pecked and that bled a fair amount, but when it stopped (5 min or so later) it wasn't terribly noticable.
Hanging out with them for a bit should give you a hint if someone's really "off" though.
