What has been the best (life) advice anyone has ever given you?

wow I am really surprised no one has said this one already

If it looks to good to be true, it probably is!

I dont even know where I heard this one; Don't make love by the garden gate cause love is blind but your neighbors ain't. In other words people on the outside looking in may see the things that you cant, Cant see the forest for the trees

I love the saying, "People don't rise to low expectations".

The best advice I ever got was this, from my dear friend, Nancy:

1. "Jenn, stop buying jewelry with your leftover money each month and think about buying a house with that money instead."
...and later...
2. "Sit down and figure out your monthly budget. How big of a monthly payment can you afford? Then use a mortgage calculator to determine how much house that payment will buy. Don't let the bank decide that for you."

That was nearly 6 years ago. I've been in my house for 5 1/2 now, and have a mortgage payment I can afford. My house isn't fancy - no granite countertops, landscaped acreage, or extra bathrooms - but it's cozy, we like it, and it's filled with love.

Don't count your chickens before they hatch ~ dear ole' mama

You don't hate them, you just hate their ways ~ dear ole' dad

God gives us the worms, but he doesn't throw them in the nest ~ me to our five rowdy (now grown) teenagers.

People need loving the most when they deserve it the least. What I told myself a thousand times with those five rowdy teenagers

Be kind to everyone you meet, for everyone is fighting their own battle. my best friend is a second grade teacher, and she said to me one time that she never talked mean to a child because you never knew what that child had come to school from. Stuck with me all these years.

Never assume. Mine (absolutely will send me into a rage if someone assumes they know what I thinking or feeling, if they don't "know" me. Even if they do, no one should assume. We all dance to the beat of a different drum. Thank God we do, think how dull this ole' world would be if we were all alike!!

Be pro-active not re-active
Don't speak when angry (for me type)
Have a reputation others live up to not down to
My grandpa's: If you can't dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with Bullsh*t.
Opinions are like a**h*l*s, everyone has one, it doesn't make them right or you right.

My lady be wary and heed to the lines of this verse: To let a fool kiss you is stupid, to let a kiss fool you is worse!

Life is like a game of cards: When you're in love it's Hearts, when you're engaged it's diamonds, when you're angry it's clubs and when you're dead it's spades.
The past is forgotten,
The future lies ahead,
What you make of it is yours,
Do it before you're dead.

Take responsibility for your own actions!

Geez, half the lawsuits out there are people trying to lay blame at other peoples feet for their own stupidity.

Practice doesn't make perfect....perfect practice makes perfect.

It's not about how many times you fall down, it about how many times you get back up.

Learn to say "Thank You" to a perfect stranger who holds the door for you.

Learn to say "I'm sorry" when you are wrong. I find many many people these days will not accept that they are wrong about anything. When you accept that you are wrong, when you are wrong, you have gained insight and wisdom.....because now you can fix it
