What have I done!? Meyer's just called - END OF STORY ON PAGE 11

There's no way I can keep my baby and my toddler in the car for a 5 hour round trip! It would be hell. Even a trip from where we live to San Antonio is a major ordeal now that we have little ones.

I did try to order from Ideal but they said 5 chicks would not survive the trip so we canceled the order.

Ideal does not use heat packs and since we live in a sub division we can not have extra chicks or roosters, etc.

When I ordered my chicks, they actually arrived on the "afternoon truck"
Since I'm only about 5 miles from the post office, they made a special trip to bring them out to me..Our normal mail time is about 9:30 am..It was about 4pm when I got mine..

Maybe yours are just on that "afternoon truck"

Ahhh, the little ones do make life more of an adventure, huh? 5 hours with a toddler could be a very long trip!

Good luck, I'm crossing my fingers that they arrive soon!

The customer service rep called me again to let me know that she doesn't see an arrival scan at the San Antonio airport. She doesn't think my chicks are in town yet.
I guess she's getting off from work now because she said she'd call the airport to tell them to keep looking for my chicks to arrive and to call me when they do.
I am hoping that's possible and that perhaps I will just pick them up from the airport today.
My gut feeling though is that we will go to bed tonight without having the chicks home...

Let me say something about using USPS Express Mail, since I have a LOT of experience with it. I am a recovering eBay'aholic. I also have an addiction to vintage and rare guitars. And when I buy instruments or other high value items I almost always pay to have them shipped Express Mail... It still is a great value - but the one shortcoming is you don't get accurate up to date tracking info. They only update the info a couple times a day at best - if out in a more rural area the box could already be on a truck coming to your house and it might still show it at it's point of origin when you track it.

The USPS is an unsung group of hard working overachievers. Give them time. Your box should get there by the time promised...

Meanwhile after that little promotional spot for USPS we'll be praying for your babies... And I mean the little fuzzy butt kind. My wife and I have 6 blue and black mottled bantam cochins (3 roos and 3 hens) that will be 6 weeks old tomorrow. All we had to do was wait while a friend hatched them for us (EGGBID) and we drove down the road 30 minutes to pick them up. God it felt like Christmas would never come (LOL)...

Be patient and enjoy raising them, like kids they grow up so fast.

texas_chick, i too only wanted a few chicks....i ended up ordering the minimum of 25 and they all arrived just fine, after two nights in transit! we have decided to freecycle all of the extras, and we were swamped with replies. please let us all know when your babies get there, best wishes!

It's been 3 hours past the guaranteed delivery time and still no trace.
Called customer service at the post office again and they say it only shows that a shipping label had been purchased so they claim they didn't receive the package.
I ship with them on a daily basis though (have an online business for handcrafted soap, etc.) and they NEVER update their system. Even days after I shipped it the tracking system only shows that I purchased a label.
So there's no way to track them or know where they might be.
I am pretty disappointed.
Not sure how I am going to explain disassembling the brooder etc. to my toddler if we don't get any chicks. He's been preparing it with me for their arrival.

My husband even took off from work so he could take care of the kids and I could zip into town and get our shipment.
All for nothing.

Why would you want to disassemble the brooder? You'll probably get a call at 6 in the morning, and I'll bet they'll be fine. they don't eat for 3 days anyways! *pat pat pat* keep calm...

Thanks. I am just mentally preparing for the worst. I'll wait another day or two of course to see if anything turns up...
