What have you done today to save money?

I had coffee from home this morning and took my lunch to work. i did have to buy a muffin because i was running late but it is the cheapest thing at the food court at work.

i usually have a couple eggs but I sold all I had collected.
my husband had to go to the coop to get eggs for his breakfast.

I really have stopped shopping at the store unless I have to have something. If I stop I only buy what I have on my list.

We just finished a coop addition built out of an old wooden privacy fence, deck we took off the house and tin we were given. I like it better than the old coop build entirely with new stuff.

I make coffee at home for me and my wife so she don't have to buy for $1.85 We got both converter boxes at Target for free cause they were on sale. bought two bags of agway feed saved $4.

Well this didn't happen today, but my hubby and I have been working on closing in one of those car sheds. We are now almost done

all we have to do is ma a double door for the front.

The reason I say this is because all of the lumber on the outside.....we got it all for FREE!!!!. Our neighbors son work for a window company and the windows come in large crates, so we go and get the crates and take them apart for the lumber, we also get Free nails too.

I'll have to post a pic later.

well not that I did this today but will wrap up my week I guess. I clip coupons every sunday pretty much and have a huge collection of them.

I bought coupons from ebay because I only wanted one from sunday's paper so I bought lots of that one, so that saved me money on all those papers and gas because I didn't have to drive to get them.

total groceries this week:
spent: $75.63 (this is including 4 packs of diapers and 4 boxes of wipes)
coupons savings: -$131.59
store savings: -$50.67
total savings: -$182.26

also I got 2 contour glucose meters (on sale for $10 but usually $75)for $1.46 at walgreens and have 2 $10 Register rewards (it's a coupon for $$ off your next purchase) that my grocery store will take so that is money towards this weeks grocery budget, that I will only really need to get meats and milk.

I boiled the heck out of the frozen chicken bones that have been collecting in my freezer and have made a nice treat for the chickens, and froze the liquid separately that will be stock for whatever recipes need it.

Joey (DH) has started taking a 2 ltr drink to work instead of stopping every day at the store to buy a 20 oz. because I can get a 2 ltr for half the price that he pays at the store for the small drink. so that has helped.
we don't get take out, or fast food or go out to eat anymore. well we might get fast food maybe 2 or 3 times a month.
I feed my leftovers to the chickens or the dog or throw it in the compost pile. Our garden will really help us save money when everything comes in. I want to can up whatever I grow to help save over the winter when we won't have the garden to just go pick from. my herb garden saves me tons compared to buying them int he store dried or fresh.

For my Daughter's birthday I made the invitations with my scrapbook stuff, instead of buying more paper.

I turn off the tv when it's not being watched, lights are turned out when not in the room.
I want to sell our tv because we don't watch it much, and it sucks power.

also I make coffee everyday and only drink half of it in the mornings, so I save it and drink the other half the next morning instead of throwing it out and making a fresh pot. this saves me big time

I make my own soap. Got the price down to less than 2 cents a load. Bought jeans and a shirt @ Thrift store for 3.75 (good deal).
I'm putting gravel down for the floor of my recycled coop. I hauled it in from out back in 5 gallon buckets ( have my own gravel pit). Also working a deal right now to trade for some tin for roof of coop. Woody

I switched to a cheaper phone plan with less minutes. And also removed the insurance on the phones. save the money, the phones have a one year warranty anyways and you still pay 50$ to ship the phone.

What grocery store do you go to that takes register rewards?

Harris Teeter. they take competitor coupons but only the ones that take $$ off the total, not for individual items. and mine said they would consider wags (even though there's not one around for at least 7 miles) RRs. and I think the manager talked to someone at corporate and found out that they will be reimbursed for them because they say manufacturer coupon on them. they will technically scan anywhere because of the way they are coded. never hurts to ask if they take them!

I ate lunch at work today for free... I work at a hotel and at 10:00 am any hot food not used is up for grabs so I had a lovely lunch of bacon and eggs today.... Also taking 5 kids swimming tonight at one of our hotels ... beats $5 a peice at the public pool, and we are usaully the only ones there...
