What have you repurposed while building ?

Pics
I just found this thread and will post here. After that, I will go back and read from the beginning. For my chicken coop and run, I am incorporating what used to be a bunk bed; any wood painted red is from that bed (in the background of this photo). For my chicken tractor (which I am currently calling my coop-ette) I repurposed a rabbit hutch - I raised it up and added a bottom enclosed in hardware cloth. The door was part of a screen door. The run used to be a dog exercise pen and for temporary shade for the run, I am using part of a trampoline.

Excellent post @Blooie . My quote disappeared into cyberspace. You're gonna love your green house. But, it will need a fan! Mine gets up to 110* with both doors wide opened.

Fully agreed, any structure made to house chickens needs to be made with future use in mind. Yet an other reason why I am so adamantly opposed to the pre-fab doll house coops. However, if you can repurpose something to create a small temporary structure that meets flock needs for space (4 s.f./bird) and ventilation (1 s.f./bird), go for it!

I love the bunkbed idea. Pretty awesome

Thanks, LG....remember when we were building it? :lau You're right, the big fan is the only modification we'll have to make, I think. Ken had already professionally run electricity out there when we first put it up, so that's covered. The only other thing I think we might do is run a line of pavers down the middle. But this is his year as Grand Master so we (wisely, I think) opted not to start anything we couldn't finish or keep up with.

Loving seeing all the innovative builds here!

A lot of those prefab coops don’t even last to the point of being able to repurpose before they just need to be replaced. That just doesn’t seem very efficient to me. I do love how are you converted it to a greenhouse. I don’t know how anybody could not enjoy greenhouse

The two of you seem to know a good bit about green houses. I am restructuring mine which never did so well to have it ready for spring time. The frame is the only thing I have left. The frame is very sturdy and in good shape and right now it’s being used as an arbor to grow my pumpkins on. But is there anyway to cool down a greenhouse without a fan. I don’t have any electricity outside
