What if I got them drunk, would that ease their final moment?

Hi..can you please tell me exactly what type of scissors i will need to do this?...thanks!, Wendy

I don't like it either but in the end I feel that chicken is dinner......so I do like the others said. Don't line them all up to see what is happening.....cause they smell blood etc. and that can get them excited and stressed.

A few at a time in the area. Do what you have to fast. And be calm with the fact they were put on the earth as a prey animal and they did the job they were meant to do on this earth.

I dont slaughter, so I dont know for sure, but I do know that some chemicals can taint the meat! Alcohol moves quickly thru the body, and it might make the meat taste different, maybe good, maybe bad.

dont know if I would risk it, you might feel even worse, if the subsequent meat was no good!

Good Luck!

If your going to use alcohol, I'd use something you wouldnt mind flavoring your meat with. It may be a good idea after all??? LOL The chicken is relaxed and the meat is already flavored. Sounds like it could possibly be a win win situation.

I just use a sharp pair of scissors. Nice, heavy duty kitchen scissors work the best in my opinion, but I've grabbed $7 craft scissors to do the job, too. Usually it cuts through everything but a small flap of skin or the remains of the spine if the scissors aren't tough enough. Even then it's done its job (ie. cutting through the veins, windpipe, enough of the spine to matter).

The hardest part will be seeing the head make gasping motions. That startled me at first, but isn't hard to get used to. If it's unnerving then kill the quail over a plastic bag so the head drops in and can't be seen.

thanks!...i will do mine this way...i think it is the quickest and least painful way!..thanks again!...now....i just need to learn how to process them..lol...so i dont taint the meat or do anything that can make us sick...

You know I have seen many animals euthanised and have euthanised over 200 myself but I still find that I have to work myself up to the thought of slaughtering something, As of now I am planning on raising chickens, quail and bunnies for meat. I know I can do it it's just getting into the right mental state.

RedHen: Do you have any other quail or are Cortunix your first?
