I've been following and will chime in now..It looks like an abscess that ruptured and should be cleaned out with salt water and peroxide. Then leave it to heal after spraying it with an antiseptic spray twice a day.

Sorry I am late, internet issues and am piggybacking on a weak signal, lol...

New2DuckyDoodles, good call on the peroxide... I wouldn't use it personally because it *can* harm good tissue as well as bad... providone iodine, clear iodine(helps to not stain the wound so you can see better) or betadine is better...

Hang in there, it may hurt her a bit, but she will be better off afterwards... if it stinks that bad, it's infected/filled with bacteria... that needs to be removed, eventually...

Small tote with a head hole cut out to put over her might help you keep her in an epsom salt soak, yes, plain and 15-20 mins per soak...

If I can't get back on, you have great help here... Kathy (casportpony) was one I was gonna tag, if she says she would do it for hers, then I would do it for mine, just sayin...

And not leaving out Miss Lydia, shaw or biophiliac, they're great help too...

Alright, here goes: *having ignorant moment on how to get the pics to show in the order I’m describing them so I apologize ahead of time if they’re out of order

First one is the towel and medical supplies I used (disinfected cuticle trimmers, locking tweezers, two pairs of tweezers with different grab tips, kwik stop bleed, 1.5x2 gauze, 4x4 packing gauze, q-tips, a clean bottle for possible debriding, neosporin, alcohol, peroxide, Epsom salts, towel, and vetericyn spray).

Second one is her gobbling lettuce-in-water-soup and third one is her demanding the mealworms. We’d sprinkle a few, she’d Hoover Them and then look at the bag until we gave her more (just cute and heartwarming).

4th pic is of me revealing the wound and her tiny panting.

5th is me removing the evil plug.

6th is of me confirming there’s more (which are pics 12-15) but is also a pic of her poor ducky tears.

7-11 are varying angles of the evil plug (11 is when I flipped it over to look at the bottom)

12-15 are varying angles of the evil hole and different lighting.

Not an internal abscess for sure, it's not under the skin... I do suspect it was originally a feather follicle that got infected/clogged... still dangerous to her health if it's not all removed and cleaned out/disinfected...

If possible, try to do as much of the work on her without her on her back... that stresses their lungs and them, but if you have to I would do short amounts of time upside, give her and yourself breaks... take your time, this may be a long process...

You got the Ick out so it should not be a long process. Clean it out once really good with a syringe of salt water peroxide and then spray it with antiseptic spray. Birds heal fast. Don't keep picking at it. Totally think abscess for sure.

I agree on all points, especially what I've bolded. That is very different than what my rooster had, but I would still treat it the same, as in get all of the black stuff out. Hopefully it won't be too hard to get to healthy tissue. that the bone is not involved.

These big breed birds don't do well on their backs, so try to find a way to do it with her upright.

I don't remember, is a vet an option?

I'm pretty sure the op stated that she was not able to get all of the infection out. So I'm afraid it very well may be an ongoing process until all the infection is cleared. I feel clear iodine would be a safer bet than peroxide. I believe Peroxide can damage healthy tissue.

You use the peroxide once to really clean it out and yes it will kill healthy tissue if used all the time.
