What in the world are they doing?

Ok folks... Here is my question. Maybe 2.

Have 5 buff Orpington hens... Beautiful and super friendly. Only one was doing this but now all are.... When I go into their kennel area where they run during the day, the all flock around my feet and squat! My brother says they think I am Alpha Rooster.

Secondly, we live in east Texas where the weather is uncommonly warm for February. My girls are going through feed like crazy. Is this normal.

Any suggestions on the best feed for laying hens? They are 7 months old .

Your brother is right! They look to you as their rooster and they are "assuming the position" for mating. I usually just reach down and pet mine when they do that. They they shake their tails like I actually did something and they walk away. It's cute! This is a sign that they're about ready to lay eggs too!
