I have a lot of catching up to do.This is PachecoPeeps photo from earlier in the thread. All of mine...including the boys...had this same degree of banding/barring on the wings. Can you explain the striping on the wings in the females and weigh in on why my boys displayed the same and now lost it? Is this different from the barring I see on your Lav Orp? How would I tell the difference in the future? View attachment 1328329
I love the idea of the projects you're working on! I Def favor blue and lavender...and barred? Can't wait to see your final results...I just might be in the market for some if I've moved by then (if you're at a point where you're selling eggs/chicks...don't want to assume). Exciting either way!I have a lot of catching up to do.
First though I wanted to correct something (give me a chance to brag even if only to myself)
The pic I posted isn't an Orpington. She is a barred lavender LEGHORN. Its a project I've been working on that may finally start nearing the finish line.
Anyways I've hatched her and solid lavender so kinda like the SGs blue and blue barred.
Also hatching another project blue leghorns. I'll get to the barring on them next year. So for now I'm only looking at my blue and what's going on with them but was trying to soak up details with the SGs since I will soon be doing the same with my leghorns.
My barred lavender looked like that and as it feathered in more the barring stayed and new feathers came in barred the same.
I might have a pic but I looked at her again and she does look like some areas have better barring then others and some areas the barring hardly shows up.
I have her and a solid and next to each other she screams barred.
I also have a couple blue chicks. Interesting none can possibly have barring but I found a couple bad pics where the first wing feathers do kind of look like the pics of the other posters chicks. Mine not to such a degree. I'll post pic later.
I looked at them now they're older and they are pretty solid blue as far as not have that pattern on their wings now.
Gorgeous!! My favorite is that older barred lav! <3 <3 <3View attachment 1329165 View attachment 1329166

Two blue pullet chicks. Kinda looks like they had some sort of pattern on first wing feathers

Just a different barred project. Just to show how interesting barring on a pattern can be
Thinking you have all pullets if that's all of them <3Here are some new pictures.
The funny thing is we bought most of them for other people. We are only supposed to keep two SG but the variation in colors makes me want to keep more of themThinking you have all pullets if that's all of them <3
HAHAHAHA We ordered 10 with the idea that we'd keep 5 and sell the rest. A friend wanted to buy them from us. But then we had room open up in our flock and it would be pointless to sell ours and buy something else so at this point, I think we're keeping all of them! Addicting little things, aren't they? The funny thing is we bought most of them for other people.
