I have three SG that were hatched mid March. Right away I became attached to the lightest of the three hens, but a month ago the comb and wattle grew quite quickly so I decided Bluebelle must be Blueboy. The two others, Indigo and Navy are darker and are definitely laying. Here's the funny thing. Blueboy loves the nests, hasn't crowed yet, and I swear he/she laid an egg this morning. There is a start of spurs growing, but when I get close by, he/she squats and does the little dance, letting me pick it up. I usually only see that in females as they submit to the rooster. In fact, all three of my SGs have small spurs. I've attached some pictures. First picture is of Bluebelle or Blueboy on the nest today. Second picture is of Navy out in the yard, Third is Indigo and Fourth is Indigo and her beginning spurs (the same size as Blue?) Next is a picture of Blue? in May, at about 8 weeks.

I will say these are some of the most beautiful hens I've ever had. Very docile and friendly.

All pullets. If it was a boy you would see the barring at this point. All chickens have spurs too. We had a lighter one with dark stripes too but we had to get rid if her because she was loud! She went to our friends and is definitely a pullet and is laying. Here is a picture of her when she was younger.

I love the names for your girls. So cute!

Thank you!

I got an egg, I got an egg, I got an egg, hey, hey, hey!!! LOL! I let the girls run around the yard for a couple of hours every morning and evening. I was pleasantly surprised to find this little nugget this evening. I have no idea when she laid it, but I know it wasn't there when 20180721_190923.jpg I let them out this morning. It was hot when I got it, but I'm in Texas, and our temps today reached 110, so I don't know if it's still good. But I'm so excited to see it!
