My Dad and FIL (RIP) served in what was then the US Army/Airforce. I am grateful to all who have and will serve our country. Yes, I am proud to be an American. We owe a deep debt of gratitude to our vets and current service men and women. When ever I see someone wearing a military t-shirt I ask them if they served in the branch of service they are advertising. When they say "yes" I always thank them for their service.

So, for all of you who have served our country over the years (and continue to do so) THANK YOU!! Yes, I am yelling...I just want you to be sure and hear me.

I'd like to say thanks for all the LOVE from you folks, to those of us who've served. Phyllis, you too - I know you weren't knocking vets, only presenting another viewpoint.

I can remember back in the 60's and 70's when the military men of this nation were reviled, the evening news burning with images of hatred and epithets hurled against them.

These men went to far off lands in pursuit of their duty, with names they could hardly pronounce, changed forever by the experience.
Then if they were lucky enough to return alive, they were outcast, made to feel like murderers and savages - unwelcome in their own land.

It is a great moment we have come to when they are lovingly welcomed and their sacrifices applauded by their fellow countrymen. It restores your faith in your fellow citizen, you know?

Thanks Davaroo and to all others that posted their stories too. I enjoyed reading them. For anyone that doesn't know the Price of Freedom, I suggest you visit one of the 125 National Cemeteries, it will do you good. I have visited several and didn't know anyone at some, but I did and thanked them. To all our Veterans, I salute you.

That was a beautiful post Dave. I really appreciated reading it. Especially being here near Fort Bragg and Pope.

It's amazing that you would find people even here that are anti-military, and I'm not talking from a political view. I'm talking about on a personal, day-to-day level. I was born with my father in the Army. Much of my DH's family is Airforce. My father-in-law just reinlisted into the Airforce.

It means a lot, especially growing up in a military town.
