What is considered basic obedience!?

I think all of them are important for a well-mannered dog. I feel like another good one is teaching them to not jump on people/counter surf (so like “off”). Obviously potty training is important too 😂

I definitely have some things I still need to work on with my dog, but she’s also a service dog in training so I’m working on a lot of socialization and specialized tasks (alerting, deep pressure therapy, etc.) and being able to have an on/off switch, and switching between working and being a pup.
Oooooooohhhhh yessssss I forgot about off!!!! LOL also NO! And understanding what that means.

Yes, Basic obedience is what you listed, manners on leash, not pulling, paying attention to the handler, automatic Sit (sit when handler stops without a command), walk on handler's left without pulling and without constant tugging or verbal reminders, Sit-stay, Down-stay, Recall (return to heel position when called), ignore other dogs and distractions. I don't believe a dog should have to be told to Leave It, he should never pick up or take anything unless he is told to Take It.

I’m also trying to train her to “do your business” on command… a very slow-going process 🐌

Sorry Bridgette…

One of my favorites! I'm currently teaching Chase to ask for permission to go potty that way when we are out he doesn't just go in the middle of a park😂 That way I can take him to a more secluded place to go.

That makes a lot of sense! Thanks!
