I've recently noticed these weird patches on my mare, there's large dandruff like pieces and some hair is falling out. Mainly on the side of her neck, on the throat latch and shoulders. Doesnt seem to be bothering her but it needs to be dealt with. Does anyone know what it is or how I can treat it? Thank you

Could be a fungus infection. Try some BluKote. It works well on fungus and is harmless to your horse. If the problem doesn't start to clear up fairly quickly, then it is something else like a vitamin or mineral deficiency.

Looks like sweet itch or rain rot. Both fungal issues. I use Bannix, works really well. My horses get scurfy on their back legs. Cleans it right up.

It’s “funk” or “fungus”. “Fungus” is misleading and is actually a bacterial thing not fungal. I don’t know what kind of curry comb you are using but you need a something else. Curry mit works great for face and legs. I like the harder plastic curry combs. It gets under the hair better. Your horse needs curried. This is normal occurrence when it’s been wet.

My TB was super prone to skin issues. My go to generally is MTG. There have been times when he was slathered in it. I swear if it thought about raining on him he broke out in hives. But yours looks dried up so good curry should help.

You could bath with chlorehexadine or providine also. That will help combat the bacteria.

Something that I have found to help prevent “funk” from sweat (I’ve groomed big $$ horses in FL) is using a vetrolin liniment rinse after hosing them off. I’m also crazy and drying faces and legs
