This is a 1 year old brown leghorn hen. She is eating and drinking well. Very active and vocal. Started as a small bump and has turned to this. Any ideas what it is and what I should do for it. I have her separated to keep others from picking on her. Thanks in advance for your help.

I would guess that it is a tumor, an abscess, or a fungus. A tumor would be firm, while an abscess would be softer. I see what looks like a peck mark--was that there when it started, and how long has this been going on? Any other symptoms? She looks very lethargic--is she eating?

She was being held down so we could get the picture. She is very active, eating and drinking. The spot started very small and has continued to grow over a few months. The peck mark is new. We brought her in to clean it off. She is now separated.

There is a disease called canker that causes some strange growths around the beak and nose that might look like that, although it looks more like a tumor, especially if it is firm to touch. Canker is treated with Avio-trich 200 mg, fish zole, or metronidazole daily for 5 days by mouth. Here are a couple of links to read, and you can google "canker in chickens" for more pictures:
