The dots look black to me.. but I wonder what it will look like once the chick dries. This chick just hatched a few minutes ago. What are those little dots on his feathers?
Hmm?!
@WVduckchick have you ever seen anything like that? I have not thus far.
Yes he/she is in an incubator. It is day 20 so it is one day early.

Is this an incubator hatch, on the expected day? What breed, from your own flock?
Have you tried pulling one off or pinching it? Are multiple balls on the same feather shaft.. all about the same distance from the skin or varying?
Hope it's a healthy chick that thrives after showing us something interesting!![]()

That's called clubbed down. I've never seen it first hand, but read about it before. Where did you get the eggs? If I remember correctly, it's caused by a Riboflavin deficiency in the parent stock. You will probably see some retarded feather growth in him, but he should be ok. You might want to feed a feed with a fair amount of riboflavin in it though, or provide a vitamin supplement to him, such as poultry cell or nutridrench. This chick just hatched a few minutes ago. he is all fluffed you now and looks normal. I pulled back his fuzz and I didn’t see anything. I could have easily missed it thoughInteresting! I’ve never noticed a hatchling like it. I’d love to see some progress pics as it grows out.
