We just finished the run portion of our coop and I'm wondering whether I should hang my feeder or put it up on cinder blocks. The only advantage I can think of is they can't knock it over. I know chickens make an awful mess and waste a bunch of feed but I'm not sure of the best way to prevent that.

I've seen many creative feeders on this website but am not sure of the advantages other than they hold a lot of feed and may be easier to load.

Thanks for any input or insight!

a few reason to hang

the cant kick out food

they cant side swipe if you have tabs

they cant poop in it

cinderblocks not so keen as they can push the feeder off and spill it

I hung my feeder up off of the ground so...
1) they couldn't tip it over
2) rake the bedding into the feeder
3) rake the feed out
4) maybe it helps keep them from pooping in the feed?
There may be other reasons, but there's some reasons I can think of. Putting it on blocks might work too, I haven't tried that. My feeder is probably still too low to the ground but I had to lower it because I have a midget hen that couldn't reach it

I tied mine to the 'rafters' with baling string/rope. Hope this helps!

The known recommended height is between 15CM and 25CM depending on breed size

I have tried blocks and its annoying hanging I find better

but even better I use troughs at 20CM hight
