What is the best breed of duck for a pet?

You have to realize that when you ask questions like this you're going to get a zillion different answers.

Ducks are very social animals and they prefere to be with their own.

Keeping single duck is irresponsible, selfish and cruel. (No regard for a species needs)

There is more than enough of animal species suitable for pets, if you insist of making a pet of a domestic poultry species I suggest Serama Chickens.

While I wouldn't have put it in quite these words, it is a good idea to get a pair(it can be 2 drakes) so they always have company.
They are very social creatures which is part of what makes them so wonderful.

I just assumed you were planning to get more than one. A single duck is a lonely creature. Even if you think you can offer it the 24-hour companionship it needs in order to be healthy and happy, what happens if you can no longer care for it, and it needs a new home? If it's imprinted on humans, it will never be happy with ducks for company, and very few people are likely to adopt a high-needs human-imprinted duck and give it a good life (I wouldn't want one--too high-maintenance, and I love ducks). Two ducks will be happier AND less work for you. If handled often, they can still be very friendly and personable.

But again, I'm hoping that's what you were already planning.

I have 2 indoor call ducks for pets, but they are crippled and would be bullied by outside ducks or else would be outside. they adore me, love to be held and cuddled, especially after swimming when they are cold and wet. they greet me verbally upon sight too. if they could move well enough to run around, i would put diapers on them but a towel on the floor and in the cage is sufficient.
good luck with your choice and I too am hoping you get two instead of one lonely duck.

I've got 3 Pekins (outdoors) for pets. When they were young they would follow us every where. Now that they are a bit older they will follow us around the yard, but they don't like to get far from their comfort zone. When we ordered our ducks we only wanted two, but ended up with three when they arrived. But I think three is the perfect number...that is if you have all of the same sex or only one male. We were fortunate that ours turned out to be 2 females and 1 male. They are inseparable from one another. They don't mind our dogs at all. Actually if the little one gets too close when we are feeding them peas they actually 'attack' him! Its more of a warning that he better not eat anymore of their peas. I will say the females are LOUD! But they only quack when its close to feeding time or when we get home from work. When we let them roam the backyard they spend the majority of their time on the back patio looking into the sliding glass door.

I'm sure whatever ducks you decide to get you'll love! But I honestly can't imagine keeping these messy guys indoors, especially when they are molting (unless you are planning to make your own down pillows)

wen any of my ducks see me they run up to me i have 7 scovies all wonderful and freindly i have 4 runners that love attention and i have 4 pekins and 2 rouens that are freindly and love attention but i have one rouen that rather be around me than be with other ducks i treated him the same as the others but he loves me wen i go inside or he cant find me he stays by my front door till i come outside or till he sees me so i beleive some ducks dont accually wanna be with their own kind.
