What is the best breed to get for showing?

you can only learn so much from pictures..... my son shows magpie call ducks and has really good ones, but there is not much competition for them even at the call duck nationals and butterscotch have really picked up in the last 4 years, you just never know what colors will take off.

LOL,
That's why you use the full site and breeders listing, not just the pics, pics are just part of the learning available on the breed sites. The standards, breeders list, and all the other info put together is what you have to study on them to know what you are doing. You'll learn a ton more from it and those individual breeders that specialise in those breeds than you will at the actual shows. Contact some of the breeders on the list, often they are very happy to share info with you. Find some in your area if possible and ask to visit them, etc, all this stuff is very benefical when starting youth or a new breed for anyone.

Well, I think my friend has decided on bantam polish for his GD. The birds will be 'hers' for showing purposes, but otherwise they will be his (i.e. live at his house, eat his feed, etc, etc.). I've located a breeder relatively close to where we are, one that I had found a while back when I was thinking of getting them. This is the website, has anyone heard of them? www.castlerockacres.com

Not sure who that is you listed?
Be sure to pick recognised colors for showing purposes though.
Here's the link to the polish club if interested
Has some very good info on it and the best breeders in the country too

Yeah, I told my friend that he'd probably be better off with 'solid' colors (WC black, white, etc) so there isn't so much nit-pickiness with the lacing and such. I'll be sure to forward the link to him.
