What is the best watering system?

Just looking for ideas, opinions, etc...
I have a 3 gallon waterer that I am using right now... but I absolutely hate it. Refilling it is a pain and it always seems to waste so much water...

So what is the best watering system?
I'm also interested in learning more about the nipple waterers- how do those work?

Watering can be a part of your coop design. I have the water coming from the roof, into a common gutter, then routed to a 5 gallon bucket that leads to my nipple waterer. Here are pics of the bucket and waterer.

I'll take some pics of the gutter system tomorrow.
