What a great thread! I've thoroughly enjoyed reading through it!
We don't really have a farm or a ranch, but what we do have is 6 wondrous acres of tumbleweeds, buffalo grass, cactus, and mesquite trees as well as 40 years worth of 'collections' left over from my in laws when we bought the place. It's definitely a work in progress, and I've loved every drop of blood and sweat we've put into it.
However, at any given time, there have been horses, sheep, goats, calves, dogs, cats, chickens and quail that have called it home. Currently, we have the chickens, dogs, cats, a rabbit and a guinea pig. Someday, I'd like to have goats, a horse, a mule, etc.
FIL referred to it as "The Ranch" when we bought it. We really are rarely home, as there's always a Little League game or band practice or school function or scouts or archery or any one of a number of other things to get to.
I dubbed the place "The Running K Ranch". Our last name starts with "K" and we're constantly on the run. Now if I could come up with a brand (as in 'cattle brand'), I'd fix up a sign for the gate.
