I don't know how to crochet or knit (wish i did) but this is an outlet for some of us that are house bound, and we probable do get off on other questions, but I never open anything that says help and doesn't specify just what kind of help they need as I am not that knowledgeable about chickens an assume that someone else will help. sorry marrie

This is a great forum with lot's of good info. Unfortunately, for many of us it's the busiest time of the year, and (I for one) have to be more selective of the posts I respond to. Even social ones! I have lot's of animals to care for, new babies, tapping maple trees, and now the garden will be kicking in. I don't have the time to answer the really basic questions, which have answers here multiple times over. I wish I could chat all day! Things will slow down soon after the Spring baby rush. Also those who have been shy need to get in here and add their two cents! I will try to jump in to topics I think I might be able to help with, time permitting. And welcome to all of you
who are new here! The people here have helped me time and time again

I read the Random Ramblings and the Family and the Swaps etc sections.

If I have a question or something I go to a specific area. If I cant find the answer I use the search function.

I rarely start my own threads anymore, since when I have I have found that I dont get replies. Must be my personality since I tend to grate on people. But hey. Love me or hate me. I am me and am not about to change.

For me that is new as of last November have learned a lot and I do a search and ask questions along the way..but I do like the Random Ramblings blog also as you can talk about anything else that is on your mind and sometimes a person just needs to vent..I made a new walking buddy friend on this blog myself..that is what I like about this blog is it don't have to be about chickens but I do search the rest and read and learn along the way..good luck and hope your questions get answered for you..

Actually it depends on the question you are asking... this is random ramblings after all, but if "totally" chicken related there are relative sections for whatever question you wish to ask....have I missed something?

I also use this forum for socialization and education...but I do try very hard to make sure I post in the correct forums as to not offend any one. I don't have my chickens yet! I learned how and how not to build my coop/run. I learned how to choose the best breeds for me. I also learned that I can find laughter, in site, recipes, advise and even a hug when I need it...

Most of us do not answer the questions asked because we don't have enough experience to feel confident about our answers...

I view this like tv....If I don't like what's being said on a certain post--I change the 'channel'...

I agree. I have never had a question I can't find the answers to on BYC. I have had ducks for years but only in the last 2 years have I had chickens. I have learn't what a fart egg is and how to tell if my chickens are about to lay and what to do for many chickens problems I have had. This site is great and I originally joined as I could not find anything in the aussie sites that could even come close to the information you can find here.

I have found tons of info here. If it isn't from a personal answer from members here, they have the learning center which is basic and nice in the event noone answers...
One thing to consider is that some of us work at home, some don't work at all and some of us have jobs that takes us away from the computer and can't get to it till we get home...
Another thing to consider is that BYC is world wide...we all aren't on the same time table.
One last note that I've learned (and I am a newbie here!!) sometimes responses have to do with where you put your information or question and or what is in the title when you do put it up. (example: baby chicks(what about the baby chick? Hurt? Feeding? etc) in rambling could actually go in raising baby chicks and or incubating) Some times people browse the site by category and not recent posts.
That is just my opinion....
This site has something for everyone and just don't look at the index categories that don't appeal to you. It is a great place to meet people who have a common interest to start with....CHICKENS!!
