This one looks like a juvenile Prairie Falcon to me.

Prairie falcons are similar to peregrine falcons but the main difference is the color, peregrines are darker. Beak and head shape is also different. Both birds are pretty much the same size though and they both hunt similar prey and have similar markings. I am not sure it is a Prairie falcon, lots of falcons look the same to me, it is even harder to tell juveniles and immature falcons apart.
 
The one from today almost got some of my chicks but the momma hen chased after it!
That is typical outcome here.

For some reason I have not seen a hawk flying over my place for months. Very different from previous years. I am also seeing sick songbirds but resolved not to inform wildlife managers for my state anymore because they are do nothings. Worthless.
 
Kestrel hawk. We have them in Caliente Nevada they migrate. Here they are protected. (At least that’s what we call them) There is about 8 varieties. They are smaller and slightly built. We get 3 varieties here in our valley.
