This is my cat Bruer. He is getting old

He showed up at my house at least 12 years ago as a young adult.

He is the kind of cat when people see they all remark about his beauty.

He has been failing in the last few months. The vet says hes not in pain and we will wait to put him down until his bad days out number his good days.

This cat has seen all my kids as babies(my oldest is 11). We will miss him

Anyways, I have never known the technical term for his coloring. His vet card lists tabby. I think there must be a more specific term in regards to his color.

What do you think?

Even though he is mostly black? With just a few tabby markings through his coat?

I have heard someone mention the term Blotched tabby before, but have not seen a picture for comparison.

Tortoise shell is the pattern.

I feel your pain, it is so hard to watch them fade, i just lost my best friend /herding /LSG dog after 12 years.

He is a beauty.

That is called a Classic Tabby.

"tabby" cats come in three main coat colors:
Classic: the bold marble pattern such as taraann81's cat

Mackerel: which is your typical tabby with the thinner lines or a "tiger" cat
Ticked Tabby: the traditional stripes are broken up into spots and the cat may not appear to be a tabby (this is common in Abbyssinians)

Tortis are females, it has to do with the coloring on the double X chromosomes; some color is taken from one X, some color is taken from the other X-->why get the "mosaic" of a cat (same with calicos)
