What is this in my egg?!

To me it looks like pictures I have seen of ovary, Fallopian tube and tiny eggs at the end of the tube. If the hen still lays eggs after this one then I am wrong. Doesn't really look like a worm to me.
Tiny bits of meat in an egg isn't unusual but this looks like a lot of something.:hmm
Wait...are you saying its possible for their ovary and fallopian tube to end up in the egg??

This is my "guess" I'm not a vet nor an expert, so bear with me - I'm not good with technical terms.

To me, it looks like "egg matter" or coagulated exudes - possibly the beginnings of reproductive problems. Salpingitis (inflammation of the oviduct) comes to mind and then maybe later on Egg Yolk Peritonitis.

If you know which hen this came from, I would keep a close watch on her. Vet care is always best, but if she were mine, I would consider treating her with an antibiotic since, to me, this is a sign that she has some type of infection. Tetracycline, if you can get it would be my first choice. If not, then I would try Tylan50.

Caught early, antibiotics can help, but are not a cure all, so she will need to be monitored.

What you found in your egg, though a lighter shade, reminds me of coagulated "egg matter" that can be found in hens with reproductive problems-note the matter is darker, but has been "cooking" in the abdomen for some time. https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/egg-yolk-peritonitis.1154532/#post-18103856

Just my thoughts on this - I really hope that I am seeing things differently and all is well.

Since I havr you all here (and if noone can answer ill just make a thread) I have a hen inside that is sick. She was ill a few weeks ago and then recovered miraculously. Saw her today and she was away from the flock, fluffed up, and i noticed her vent was swollen. It was also leaking discharge/poop. Im beginning to think she has some reproductive issues. She is a sex link chicken who is 1 yr old. I can post pictures if anyone might know what's going on.
But wondering if maybe I should cull her?

Just now reading this. I have a hen inside who is ill. She has a swollen vent and possibly egg bound. Also leaking from the vent. She was ill a few weeks back but she all of a sudden recovered and was fine. But now here she is. Does this narrow down to anything? She mightve been the one who laid this egg seeing as her symptoms are in correlation to finding that weird egg.

Not chemically but naturally. When I first posted this my mind went straight to a worm too cause it was stringy but i inspect their poop a lot and theres no evidence there. And from my research it would only end up in the egg if they were highly infested, am i right about this? Ive made brrakfast again for my dog , 5 eggs again, and nothing abnormal about them. I'm so confused on what this may be.

I do not believe it is a worm. The shape is too inconsistent. Round worms are very firm, and have the appearance of angel hair spaghetti that is pointed on both ends. They tend to curl up as they dry up. Tape worms are consistent in shape from one end to the other. I believe it is early lash egg formation that got swept up and included in this egg. Kind of gross looking. I wouldn't want to eat it, but am sure that we have all eaten worse things in our lives, totally unaware!

Do u have any experience with chickens who lay lash eggs? Any advice? I have a ill chicken today and assuming she is the culprit.

How is she doing?

From your description, I would suspect this is the hen that laid the egg in your photos.
Photos of the swelling may be helpful if possible - what does the poop look like.

What treatment(s) have you tried for her?
If she is not lethargic, you can give her a soak in a warm epsom salts bath, massage her abdomen gently. You may also want to insert a lubricated finger into the vent about 1" to see if you feel an egg. Sometimes they may have an egg with shell stuck or it could be a lash egg.

Encourage her to drink, if she won't eat at least see if she will accept water or electrolytes, she will be o.k. without food for a day or so, but dehydration comes quickly and makes passing anything very hard.

I'm very sorry that she is not doing well, let us know how she is.

Well after posting this I made another thread because she was "egg bound" and I gave her a soak. Well 15 mins or so later she passed the "egg" but it was a lash egg. A BIG ONE. Full of infection. And im certain she is the one who has laid the weird egg and a shell-less egg I once found in the nest a while back. I didnt think nothing of the shell less one bc it was winter and snowing and just figured I needed to up the calcium some. But now I know its a reproductive issue along with infection and its probably been going on for a while.:hit I have decided to put her out of her misery and cull her. It will be my first so... wish me lots of luck. Im emotionally preparing myself this evening. It will be in the morning when I do this .
