What is this wierd thing sticking out her chest!?

Thanks so much for the pictures! This has been a great learning thread!

Two questions:

Has any more infection oozed out of the incision?

And, have you given her any antibiotics?

Just to file away in my brain for future reference.

Hope she continues to recover well!

Thank you so much! In a wierd way, I lovew reading about "Chicken ER"! And I hadn't yet read anything like this and ti was VERY interesting! Sorry I wasn't here to wait tensely with all of you! LOL

Do you know what cracks me up? Is that all the people watching this thread were dying to see an old nasty, oozing, pussey abcess get lanced and drained. How sick have us chicken folks gotten?

I have done crop surgery for impaction, and you should consider yourself lucky it wasn't that. It really has a stench that makes you wonder why you are doing it. I am glad to see she is doing well. It looks like you did well and now it is just a matter of time for her to heal.
Good luck.

Looks good. You might add some moisture to move the healing process along. That is a HUGE scab. Softening it up with some Neosporin or Bag Balm may help it start to fall off as it heals. I love Blukote, but it is very drying.

Again, nice work! You probably saved her life. What a strange place to get an abscess. Did it start out as a breast blister?
