What is this?

to check sizes?

Yep, they're thread checkers for determining thread size.... I don't find them to be that useful that often, but every now and again, when you loose a nut or bolt that is some odd size they save the day... particularly on machinery where you can't just take it in to the hardware store and check size there.

And I have used them to sort out misc hardware too.

Okay here's another... I just ran across these in the miscellaneous whatzadoodles bin, when I was getting a picture of those nuts and bolts... the twist is I'm drawing a blank on their actual use at the moment

My first guess was to check sizes

because you are going to repurpose them silly

lol, but am I?... am I really ever?

I've got so much of that kind of hardware that I've taken off things over the years, that I've just about come to the conclusion I need to stop doing that... but once in while it bails me out of a jam and I don't have to run to town... so it keeps me going... like a gambler that wins one night after loosing the previous 100!

yep same here, but hoarding is cheaper than gambling

everytime I get on a pitching spree a month or so later I wish I had one of the items I previously got rid of
of course I can't find anything because I have toooooooo many treasures that I might need one day

hmmm, I never thought about it before... I wonder if gambling and hoarding are opposite sides of the same dysfunction, meaning I wonder if hoarders are seldom gamblers and gamblers seldom hoarders? :hmm

Yeah, that finding thing issue... I'm starting to be one of those people with two of every tool, because I have to buy another when I can't find the first.... my neighbor down the road a piece is worse because he had two of everything then he inherited all of his dad's stuff, who had two of everything... so now he has 4 of everything!
