Could it be fly eggs? I see the photo caption says the hen is already dead, so flies might have crawled in and laid eggs after she died but before she was discovered. (Flies can sometimes lay impressive amounts of eggs in a relatively short time.)

I think you maybe right. I've never in my life time seen fly eggs.
