I got rid of my landline when hubby was on midnight shift. The ringer was always turned off, so what was the point. Plus, we both had cell phones.
I work in a 911 center and talk on the phone 8 hours a day, the last thing I want to do is go home and talk on the phone. I love texting, makes things much more convenient when I have something quick to say to a friend. And, with my job, I can't be on my cell if hubby needs something. I have a co-worker who is on her cell ALL day at work and it drives me nuts! If I was the person she was talking to and she kept telling me to hold on so that she could answer the work phone, I would hang up. It is much easier in our job to have people text, because then I can get back to you when I am not busy. I know if my phone rings while I am there, it is an emergency. And, I ALWAYS hang up when the work phone rings.
My kids have a phone for at the house when they are here alone, does not have text on it and they can only call certain people. My son is 10 and I know kids in his class that have cell phones with unlimited texting already! WTH???? There is NO WAY my kids are getting cells for personal use until they are in high school, and only then if they are involved in something after school and they may need picked up at a different time. Once they start driving will be different.
There are few people that I talk to on the phone anymore. My grandparents and my dad are some of the exceptions because one set of grandparents and my dad don't have cells and my other grandparents have them, but don't know how to text.
Texting isn't as bad as people make it out to be, it the people doing it that are the problem. I DO NOT ever text and drive. I rarely talk on my cell and drive. I see what happens to people that do that everyday, and it is stupid to do it.
Also, for those talking about grammar, I text in full and complete sentences with correct punctuation and spelling.
