What is with texting????

I must say, I agree!!! I can't stand texting! My kids do it all the time! I don't even want to know how to do it. We all have cell phones, so we don't have a land line. Heck, I don't even like talking on the phone, for crying out loud!

I got rid of my landline when hubby was on midnight shift. The ringer was always turned off, so what was the point. Plus, we both had cell phones.

I work in a 911 center and talk on the phone 8 hours a day, the last thing I want to do is go home and talk on the phone. I love texting, makes things much more convenient when I have something quick to say to a friend. And, with my job, I can't be on my cell if hubby needs something. I have a co-worker who is on her cell ALL day at work and it drives me nuts! If I was the person she was talking to and she kept telling me to hold on so that she could answer the work phone, I would hang up. It is much easier in our job to have people text, because then I can get back to you when I am not busy. I know if my phone rings while I am there, it is an emergency. And, I ALWAYS hang up when the work phone rings.

My kids have a phone for at the house when they are here alone, does not have text on it and they can only call certain people. My son is 10 and I know kids in his class that have cell phones with unlimited texting already! WTH???? There is NO WAY my kids are getting cells for personal use until they are in high school, and only then if they are involved in something after school and they may need picked up at a different time. Once they start driving will be different.

There are few people that I talk to on the phone anymore. My grandparents and my dad are some of the exceptions because one set of grandparents and my dad don't have cells and my other grandparents have them, but don't know how to text.

Texting isn't as bad as people make it out to be, it the people doing it that are the problem. I DO NOT ever text and drive. I rarely talk on my cell and drive. I see what happens to people that do that everyday, and it is stupid to do it.

Also, for those talking about grammar, I text in full and complete sentences with correct punctuation and spelling.

I don't text. I don't even know if my cell has text capability. I agree that it's faster but there is a time and a place for it. I guess I'm just old fashioned but if you're in my place of business or interacting with me face to face stay off the phone. It's just common courtesy. If it's an emergency that's a different matter but constantly interupting our business/conversation to discuss what you're going to do for lunch or discuss your dating life with your BFF, etc. can wait.

I'm an x-ray tech and I can't tell you how many times I've had patients continue to text or talk on their cell when they're in my x-ray room and I'm trying to give them instructions and take the x-rays on them. HELLOOO...hang the phone up! You aren't that important. You can get back to the other party in ten minutes when I'm done. OH! And don't even get me started on someone holding up the "in a minute" finger when I'm calling them to get their exam done.

I had a patient that was always texting or on the cell and would do that to me everytime he came in, so I one day took everyone else that was waiting ahead of him while he continued his conversation. Then he started berating me because he was there first and I'd kept HIM waiting, yada, yada, yada. I very politely told him that while he was in my office he was the same as everyone else, a patient, and I was not going to keep other people waiting until he decided he could fit me into his busy schedule. If his conversation was more important than getting the studies done that his doctor ordered, then maybe he should think about coming back when he could find the time and it wouldn't be an inconvenience for him.

I text people in the same room all the time when they are other people in the room that I ether dont want to hear or they dont need to hear what is being said.
Usually talking about adult things around kids. Its amazing tho how fast a 3 year old catches on that yall are texting each other.

I'm going on a search for phone booths and if I don't find any in convenient places I'm going to have to rethink this one.

I texted quite a bit when I lived in the city, it's the thing to do with my generation. People rarely call each other anymore. A few of my good friends would call but mostly it is text text text or MSN msn msn. Now that I live in the booneys with no cell reception I love it. I do not miss texting at all. It probably made my arthritis worse, in fact. It is a strange phenomenon, that is for sure. It is definitely useful for getting across short and quick informations but my friends and I would text extensively. What would take 5 hours and 12030443 texts would have taken 3 minutes on the phone.

I can proudly say that I am a teenage guy who thinks texting is pointless, with the exception of short, e-mail style messages. But carrying on a conversation? That's what the PHONE is for! Actually, that's what meeting and talking is for!

It just renders one completely oblivious to reality. Studies have shown that texting is actually addictive in the same way as drugs, believe it or not. The brain patterns are the same for texting and certain narcotics.
