What is with texting????

I hate texting, I hate talking on the phone. I do have a cell phone, a Trac Phone. I have a few different medical problems so it is safer for me to have the phone in case I ever need it. What I can't stand is seeing people texting and driving, which I see quite a lot of. So many people have the stupid cell phones glued to their ears or thumbs. I will see groups of people together all on their own phone or texting. What is the point of getting together if you are just going to be on your phone the whole time? Or people walking around staring at their phone texting, not paying any attention where they are going. I use to work in a pet store, I dealt with the small animals and fish. If someone was chatting on their phone I would walk away and wait for them to get off. I'm not a mind reader, I don't know what you want. I remember one guy got pissy because I wouldn't stand around and wait for him to get off his phone, I helped the other costumers not glued to their phone.

Debi, do you text as much as you post??? I'll bet you can text faster than you can talk

Amen sister! That is exactly how I feel.

ETA: My cell plane has very few minutes and unlimited texting. I only want to be on the phone when someone really needs me. Other than that, text me and keep it short.

YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! You see I can carry my phone around while doing chores, text someone, throw it back in my pocket and do more chores and carry on! If I have the dang thing to my ear, I SURE can't shovel POO with one hand!!

Cell phones are great tools, but like any tool can be used incorrectly. I would NOT have tolerated that behavior in a movie theater. That was inconsiderate. Why should you not have been able to enjoy a movie you PAID good money to see? I would have been out of my seat finding an usher to deal with the rude texter.

I like to text, but I do it politely and never in front of people I am spending time with. If it's an emergency, I excuse myself to the bathroom and deal with it there.

I do think a lot of messages can be misunderstood in text messsage form. When you can't hear the tone of a message, it's difficult to know what a person means. Something that might be a joke can be taken the wrong way. I know I've gotten upset about quite a few things said to me through texts by friends. After talking through it, it always seems to be a big misunderstanding!

Just a couple of years ago in RI a high school girl was killed by a bus because she was texting and walked right in front of the bus while it was turning. Very sad indeed.
