WHAT is wrong with my hens EYE!

Ok, i went to tractor supply and bought duramyacine and some nutri drench. They had tylan but the guy i was talking to said it was only for swine and cow and that it could kill a chicken. I got home and squirt some nutri drench in each of the blue cochins mouths. All of the sudden one of the blue cochins started flapping around and then flipped upside down with its feet sticking straight up in the air and its head tilted back underneath its body! it was the weirdest thing i have ever seen. Before i could actually get into the run and get it, it was already dead. I am guessing it choked on the nutri drench because this happened about 30 seconds after i gave it to it.
The other blue cochin seems fine! I just dont know what happened and i feel terrible.
I also bought 2 new waterers and filled it with water then mixed the duramyacin in it. I put one in the pen with the remaining blue cochin and the other in the pen with the laying hens.
I mix new solutions every 24 hours correct? After three days if i dont notice a difference will i know that the duramyacin isnt going to help?
Thanks to everyone who has been helping me! Lets hope that the duramyacin will cure all this

Ok, I'll be blunt-the guy at Tractor Supply was full of it-Tylan is perfectly safe for chickens. I GUARANTEE you it is.
TSC, God bless 'em, isn't the best place to get info on animal health. Mine didn't know what hardware cloth was.
Yes, change the water every 24 hours and you are correct, if no improvement in a couple of days, try Terramyacin in the water.
Sorry you lost another one.

Sounds like she aspirated and you squirted it down her windpipe.

For future reference, using plastic tubing such as that used for aquariums is MUCH safer. You just have to make sure you stick it down the right "pipe" (feel for it near the crop).

Also, the Tylan wouldn't have killed your chickens. There are lots of meds for other livestock that we use for chickens, you just have to be sure and adjust the dose

Does it say on the bottle that tylan is safe for poultry? I questioned the guy then read the label but i didnt see where it said it was safe for chickens. All it said was swine and cow. My TSC is actually very good, that is why i didnt buy the tylan. I trust them, and so far this is the first mistake they have made. Other than them not knowing about sheep ( which arent very common in my area) the people at my TSC are pretty knowledgable. I guess i will go get the tylan if the duramycine doesnt work.
I feel terrible about the chicken dying because of my mistake

I didnt know, i just opened up the beak and squirt it down.

It doesn't say it's safe for chickens, but it is. It's just not officially approved, but the important thing is the type of medication.

Don't be too hard on yourself, it happens

. Live and learn, and be careful when you squirt anything into their mouth as they aren't the smartest and often breathe it in.

Sorry to hear about your birds. So sad. As everyone has said....Tylan will not kill your chickens. So many people on BYC administer Tylan to their birds with no problem -including me and have not lost 1 single chicken or turkey due to administering Tylan.
