Annnnnnd that's why these kids are the way they are. There are consequences to one's choices and actions, these Parents are crippling their kids by letting them believe things will take care of themselves magically. Since when did parents become afraid of their children?!
Glad to hear your DH wouldn't compromise his ethics or job to make up for someone else's cr*ppy parenting.
What could be funny if it wasn't so sad is the number of parents that drag their out of control pre-teen and teenage children down to the police station and want the cops to "fix" them. They don't want to be the kid's parent, they want to be their kids best friend, so they attempt to get the cops to be the bad guys. DH can be in
walmart in uniform and parents with unruly young kids will point to him and say "if you don't be quiet, stop whining, kicking your sister, etc., etc.... that policeman is going to lock you up!"
Why not be the parent and apply a little flesh to the childs behind? Don't make my DH or any LEO out to be the bad guy. (Sorry, one of my pet peeves).
And yes, I do agree that we have some great kids on BYC. I've enjoyed getting to know quite a few of them. It's the ungrateful, out-of-control, what are you going to do for me kids that I have a problem with.
I think some of that also depends on where you live. Out here even a child who sorely needs a spanking often does not get it, for fear that someone will call CPS. My cousin fell off the monkey bars at the school playground, broke his arm and got a black eye. Sure enough, some nice concerned person saw him and called cps for a "badly beaten child" who then came to interview the family and school.
