BTW, I've always found that a Lab is a solid farm dog. Not a herder by any stetch of the imagination, but still a well-rounded, trustworthy dog.

Our best farm dog is NOT one I reccomend for the job but he just decided it was his job to do He is a Greatdane/shep /lab crossed with husky lol Not your usual farm dog for sure!!!!! Now that said.... we just got a Aussie shep/ cattle dog cross from the amish in the area so she is out of working parents. She is full of puppy twittyness but will outgrow it and is already showing natural herding skills

I love herding breeds they are way to much fun

This is my perfect farm dog, Ben. He is loyal and protective of us and our animals, he alerts us to any strangers, and runs off any animals that come on to our property. He is so gentle with the chickens and will go lay in their pen. He can round up the horses and send them into the barn although I never trained him to do that!!

He is 16 months old. If I had known how wonderful he would turn out, I would have got 2!!

He is such a good pup no chewing running off listens
And then....I got Scribble. She runs off doesn't listen eats anything and I mean anything
chews everything she gets close to.

Suenrob, What a beautiful shepherd. I had one when I was very young (how long ago THAT was) named Beauty. She was very smart. What are the negatives of a german shepherd? I have been getting so much info, thank you all so much...so far, I have pretty much ruled out heelers, just for the negatives....they are great dogs, though, for the right people...

This is Mystro ( yes not spelled correctly but thats how we spell it lol) Not the best pic hes camera shy lol Hes a good dog I still have his mom shes lab, greatdane, and shep.

Thanks for that pic, runamuck, I couldn't imagine what Mystro looked like. Not at all like I pictured him. He looks like a good dog.
