what kind of animal person are you?

He is a Kentucky Mountain Saddle Horse, and has been the most challenging horse I've ever worked with. He has a strong spook reflex and requires a quiet, assertive rider who can keep his mind on his job. As you can see he loves me!

Chickens!!!

No really, I love all animals. We have 4 cats, 2 dogs, 8 chickens, 7 fish, and 2 hamsters for the kids. We've kept snakes and guinea pigs in the past. We've had more then our fair share of vet bills! Keeping so many animals is not cheap either.

i've considered turkeys but I hear they need more care than chickens.

Ours have been raised with a batch of meat birds (well, until this last Friday when we butchered the meaties). They haven't needed any more care than the meaties did. They do love to roost though, so providing roosting bars even at a young age is recommended. We put ours in with the chickens because we read that they are rather stupid and the chickens will help show them where the food and water is. Worked like a charm for us. We haven't lost any of them. They run up to us when we walk near their pen and the little boys trying to strut when they were a week old was just adorable!

well it's good to have a lazy day now and then. What kind of bird is that in your picture? I'm afraid I don't know enough between ducks and geese to tell.

I had to hit the ground running, learning wise, when we bought this land. Right now I'm studying up on sheep , pigs, rabbits and cattle. next will be water fowl and turkeys.

she's really pretty. I didn't know geese could be gentle. I've heard so many horror stories about them. hmmm when I finish putting in a pond I may look into getting geese along with ducks if geese are as fun as ducks are

that sounds cute. i keep hearing neat things about rabbits but my experience with them is that they eat and poop and simply tolerate being held. maybe i'm just not good at reading "rabbit language"

I have a house bunny who is boxed trained as well. It's true that mine only tolerates being held, unless I get real relaxed and she falls asleep in my lap, then she enjoys it. But it's more her antics that are entertaining, she does far more than eat and poop! I've taught her a few tricks, so she rings a bell in her cage when she wants hay, she stands and begs on command for a slice of apple, and watching her terrorize the cats is priceless. She also gets excited sometimes and runs in crazy circles around the dining room table, or races back and forth, stuff like that. Bunnies are very entertaining! But again, that's a trained house bunny, as opposed to a rabbit outside in a cage all the time with no real life to enjoy.
