What kind of Bantam am I

Uh he had 3 strikes. And after getting me through a pair of jeans to the point of blood running down my leg then yes killing for “natural behavior”. If the natural behavior is attacking me for not doing anything but feeding and collecting eggs well he wasn’t safe.

exactly. I don’t deal with any violent action towards myself well. He had to go. I don’t rehome mean roos. It shouldn’t have to be someone else’s problem.

Aggresive roosters can learn, and killing an aggresive rooster is not humane. Almost all roosters should have the capacitu to become tame enough to not attack you, Just some take alot more time, Did you even try to teach him? Rehabilitate him? Even if you don't have the time there is always someone with patience and care for the rooster to be rehomed to. There is a saying, "There is no such thing as a bad dog, Just a bad owner" a owner that is not willing to give the time and care needed to tame an aggresive rooster, does not deserve to own that rooster, And is a bad owner for that roosters specific needs. Anyway im ending it here because i dont want people to call me a "Hijacker".

Anyways here is even more stuff about aggresive roosters and why killing isint humane. https://www.backyardchickens.com/articles/the-ever-misunderstood-rooster.72932/

He sure did learn. He learned to attack from behind, and he learned to go for my face. Quite frankly I am upset at being called a bad owner. My animals eat first and they are rarely out of food. And if they need medical care they get it. They get to free range almost the whole day if it’s not raining. To me you are being a troll, by bringing up all this.

Petree (that was his name, not some no name bird) was over a year old when he started being aggressive. It went on for MONTHS! Not a day or a week. I did all the things that was suggested. But the attacks became worse. And he started attacking hens. As I said before he got 3 strikes, then he was out. And that’s the end.

I want to apologize to the OP, I’m sorry that by saying that my roo was aggressive that some people had to jump in and insult someone. Birds are not created equal just like people. Your bird may be a lovely flock member or a Devil with feathers. I hope he stays a nice and handsome boy for you.

By bad,I meant not the right owner for HIM. You chose to kill him, Because you didint want anyone to have to deal with him. But really Someone with the right flock and much time, And someone with lots of knowledge on roosters and rooster behaviour, Would be the ideal owner. But intead of trying to find someone like that you killed him. I never called you a bad owner for all your birds, I was talking about for him, Just him. Almost all roosters can be taught and can learn to the point where they respect you enough to not flog you. Some might just take very long.

No one around here wants a nice rooster, let alone one that is aggressive. And the people that want aggressive roos want them for fighting. That’s no life to live.
I have nice friendly roos, they do a great job with their girls and don’t cause trouble.

Can you tell me what you tried?
I’ve tried picking him up, holding him down in a submissive postion, treats, & time out in a coop by his self. I spend a long time after work each day out with everyone. Hours.

No one wants a nice rooster? If killing was your very very very very very very very last resort, Then i owe you an apology.

I by no means have had to deal with an aggressive rooster (or any rooster for that matter), so I can't say what I will do if I am in that situation. I can say that Alleyschicks has been super helpful in every post I have about chickens. She is very knowledgeable and clearly loves her birds. I am sure that the whole situation with Petree was very hard on her.
Hyper_chicken05, I appreciate the articles. I am sure they will come in very useful if I have one that grows up to be aggressive. I am still holding out for nice, friendly roosters.

When you ask about no one wanting nice roosters, I think what she is saying is that, in general, the people around her don't like roosters at all - be they nice or aggressive. Some people don't like the noise they make. I think it is a sign you are blessed to live a more rural life, so I like the crows.

@Hyper_Chicken05, I think it is time for you to stop.
Many of us cull mean roosters, many of us cull meat birds, or chickens who don’t fit the needs of our flock for many reasons. Name calling is not helping this situation. @AlleysChicks did nothing wrong either way, and personally a month is a long time, I probably would have given up sooner.
