I have a pug. At first he seemed useless and cuddly but mine has decided to start herding my chicks. When it's cool outside I take them out to play in the grass and if they try to wander to far my dog will run circles around them and bark to get them back. It's too funny.

I have a black lab (10 yrs old now) so he has a grey chin
and I rescued a -- well--- copper coloured hound/lab mix - we called him Clifford cuz he looks like Clifford the Big Red Dog....
He was only supposed to stay the weekend like all my other rescue animals....

Sasha is my black lab mix, she's 6yrs old now.
We know the mother was the black lab and that she was very sweet, they didn't know who that father was ((we think he was a flat coated retriever mix))...
She's got that sweet side from her mother, but.... well she also has plenty of moments, but we love her and know she'd give her life for any one of us at any moment

We have four:
Ladybird the Bloodhound, who is around 4, Kodiak the Black Lab something who is almost 2, Woodrow the Black Mouth Cur/Mountain Cur mix and nearly 2, and Ruger the German Shorthair who just turned 1. The Bloodhound and the Lab mix are Search and Rescue dogs. All of them except Woodrow are rescues.
With animals, the Bloodhound is probably the best although she does want to play with some that are too small to cope with her! I adore Bloodhounds, but they are an absolute no if you don't have a fence, as are all hounds. They'll get on a good trail and will not quit, often wandering into trouble. She is stubborn, but she is also very loyal and affectionate.
It does vary from dog to dog whether you can trust them around birds. Even those that don't have malicious intent can hurt a bird. I think our GSP would stress them out from being too interested. The Labradork as my husband calls her is just too exuberant for most people, and is often too intelligent for her own good. We love her to bits, but she has 300,000 acres to run on. In town she would be awful. The cur is very much a one person dog, and I am not that person! He is protective of us around strangers, and quite shy of people he doesn't know, but he loves to hunt.

German Shedder, I mean Shepherd! Shadow is his name. He was rescued from neglect and is my hiking buddy and chicken herder, er, chaser! He'll be 7 years old in October.

We are down to 7 dogs now.
The Miniature Daschund we found on the road has disappeared after DH told someone they couldn't have her.
She didn't chase chickens at all, but if a newborn rabbit fell out of a cage, she would dispose of it rather quickly.
My GD's dog, Sadie.
She is a little over 1 year old. She is a Blue Heeler/Border Collie mix that she bought with her own money. She is great with kids & animals. She is now staying with my laying hens to keep away predators. We let her out for a few hours during the day to run & play fetch. We recently gave away her litter of 5 puppies.
DH's dog, D.J.
She is a 8 yr. old Blue Heeler. She is good around the chickens until we catch any. Then she "catches" every free ranging chicken she can & piles the bodies up for us, so we don't have to catch them. Now, anytime we have to catch any & move them, she goes to her kennel for a few days. She has to stay penned during the day, I sell eggs & she will bite, so for customers safety she is penned when the front gate is open. Electric Meter reader man now knows how to read "No Trespassing...Bad Dog" signs, after an overnight stay at the hospital & several stitches because he climbed over the closed & locked gate. His excuse was...everybody has those signs!!!

Jo-Jo, she is 11 months old.
These 2 make a great team. They have already killed a coyote.
Sam, he is 5 months old.
Jesse, she is also 5 months old, & Sam's litter mate.
These 2 are in a pen with a few goats to get them bonded with them before we turn them out.
Rex, he is 4 months old. He is the newest member of the bunch. I just got him last week. He is still penned to get to know us & the animals. He has not been handled at all, so it will take some time for him to settle in.
DH said he would feel sorry for anyone or thing that came onto the property at night when all these dogs were loose.
They are very protective over their animals. (Including me) LOL
My first love was a Rottweiler, but these Great Pyrenees are awesome dogs. I would love to have one as a house dog, but DH woudn't stand for it!!! Sophie does sneak in once in awhile...

We just got our newest edition on Saturday, she is a rottweiler/st.bernard, but she looks just like a rottie without her tail docked. She is almost 2 yrs old. So, with her and our 6 yr old rotti Jasper, and our 6 yr old beagle Sam, we have our quota for doggies. When I went to get Monzie(our newest), my hubby didn't really believe I was gonna bring her home. He just shook his head when we hopped out of the car. I drove 1 1/2 hrs to see this dog and I wasn't going to come home empty handed unless the dog was unsuitable. Monzie came right over to us and started licking our faces, and she was so good with our 4 yr old daughter, I just had to take her and she was free, vaccinated and dewormed. How could I pass up on her?? She's been so good since she's been her, I was told she preferred being outside most of the time, but I'm thinking she just needed more attention, cause she really likes it indoors here and whines when you put her outside to the bathroom. Maybe we might gt some puppies from her and Jasper,as they are both unfixed, Jasper has never had the opportunity to sire a litter, so one last chance before he is neutered

I can't believe we are the first ones to have Greyhounds. We adpot retired racers and give them a nice life (first in a nice condo in downtown Seattle and now on Greyfields, our 22 acre farm).
I have cousins in Herefordshire, England, with a dairy called "Woofields". The farm has been called that since Anglo-Saxon times. It means "Fields with Wolves" or the "Wolves' Fields".
When we bought our farm, we thought long and hard, and ultimately came up with an allusion to Woofields (which we love dearly and can't wait to visit again). So we went with Greyfields, since we have greyhounds in the fields.

Very kewl greyfields! I had a friend that rescued Greyhounds as well...back in North Carolina.
I have an 8 wk. old Pomeranian named Trinity. So far she's been very curious about our chickens, but I havn't allowed her outside w/ them yet. I'm afraid they may try to peck her or something. She loves to stand at the screen door & watch them when they come over to eat their treats.
