Certainly not an expert here - far from it. But, it looks like a paper wasp nest to me. It would help if you could get a photo of one (or more) of the residents. If you happen to be one of those people who are regularly attacked by wasps, or are allergic, don't take any risks.

yeah it’s right over my front door this year. I find some kind of wasp or hornet nest on the property every year and I also get stung every year a couple times. Going to ask my husband to spray it tonight since it’s over the front door they will probably attack us as we come and go. try to get a photo of first. I hate to kill beneficial insects, but sometimes I need to.

Wasps are something of a sore point at my place. They just don't bother me - in my younger days, I could work on a roof, with wasp nests (mostly red wasps) under the eaves, and never get stung. I ignore them, they ignore me.

Eldest son is a wasp magnet, he can get stung if he walks 100 yards from a nest. Other members of the family fall in between. Fortunately, no one is really allergic to the stings. But we're all allergic to pain. 😉

I call them white face same. They are very aggressive. Actually a wasp. They will chase and sting multiple times.

Lighting a candle under a hornets nest causes smoke to enter the entrance .Hornets will abandon a nest if smoke gets inside it

go out at night and spray it, be done
my husband sprayed it . i have mixed feelings though. poor little evil things.
