what kind of roo is this?

He appears to be a silkie cross or a silkie whose family tree does not fork. He was most likely dumped due to his temperament. Either way he deserves to be attended to. Good luck! And Welcome to BYC!

Woah.

Now THAT is one WEIRD looking bird!

Silkie appearance, But A SINGLE comb.....

Silkie cross?
actually, he has a double comb. can't tell in that picture.

He may be silkie though hatchery grade. He doesn't have a walnut comb as per breed standard, however a lot of purebred silkies do not, or have red walnut combs etc. I think he was dumped because of his bad temperament.

If he doesn't soften up, I would sincerely advise you rehome him. Aggressive roosters can cause a lot of serious harm especially to young people because they are closer to the group.

You may find he is too aggressive for your chicks when they are old enough to breed. There is never a good reason to keep a bad roo - as evidenced by the horde of roosters seeking new homes - or getting into soup pots.
