I love those-where did you get them? I need a warm, 100% waterproof pair for going from the house to the shed and a semi-warm pair for the actual run and coop.
I have dedicated pair of tall rubber boots for the chickens, rain or shine. I put them on at the back door, but step allover the doormats that we step on with regular shoes & barefoot- luckily the baby hasn't crawling that far into our mudroom yet ;-) If I forget something, like dogfood (feed all the critters at one time - dogs outside but food in house) I'll wear them into the kitchen.
I try to scuff them off in the grass, puddles whatever between the coop and the house. I take them off on the back porch, and walk across the doormats with my socks or barefoot and go on about my day. I did wear them to a friends house a few weeks ago to go into her horse pasture, in my clean non-farming new car... I do sometimes tend the critters in my regular shoes if I'm in a hurry and have somewhere to be in the AM- but I've learned that when I'm in a hurry is when my rooster tends to attack, so I try to avoid doing that.
We also have a dedicated 'chicken jacket' that was my hubby's embroidered leather marching band jacket from highschool, it's the only thing thick enough that we're brave enough to wear with the rooster. His mother would probably be appauled if she knew that we wore that with our chickens.

Hi... I usually compare between Zappos.com and Amazon.com. I got one pair from each... just looked at which had the best deal at the time. They are more expensive than what I would normally spend on boots like this.... but they do last forever, they are a snap to clean and most importantly they are water proof and very warm... besides... I found some that match my "dusty plum" Carhartt overalls!!!
This has been an issue for me ever since we got chickens. I finally solved it by putting my lined crocs by the back door on a mat. When I head out to the chicken house, I switch shoes. When I come in, I switch back. Occasionally, I forget - and I always regret it. I've had to put so many of my tennis shoes and sandals through the washer/dryer. So I've really been working on making it a habi. Because of immunity issues in our family, I'm obsessive about cleanliness.
I had a pair of Timberland boots that never really got worn that I've turned into my "chicken shoes." But, they sure do carry alot of mess in the tread!
I wear my slippers that are lovely and warm...Ugg boot style. Of course it is always wet here at the moment so I wear my husbands crocs on top to keep my slippers dry! It means my feet are warm and dry at the same time!!
I would not do this if I ever thought I would be spotted!!!
