What kind of sweet treats do YOU make for Christmas?

I was getting ready to copy this recipe. Sounds really good but why are these 7 layer bars with only 6 ingredients? Am I missing something or has something been left out?

ha... dont know.... maybe the glass baking dish makes 7? (good question). some people also call this magic bars too? my mother and I have made this every single xmas for years. (ill have to ask her)>>>>>>>

When the girls were small my DW would make sugar Christmas cookies and they would decorate them--we must have a mile or more of home movies of this. Now that they don't get here until either Christmas Eve or Day she no longer makes cookies or anything else other than Christmas dinner. I, on the other hand, do a lot of baking for the holiday. I'll make both an apple and pecan pie for dinner. Then gingerbread men for snacking--the grandkids will or will not decorate them depending on what else they find to do. Mostly though I go to my Scandinavian heritage and make a couple of loaves of julekaka and a batch or two of lefse. Both can be considered sweet treats depending on what you cover them with--grandkids like lefse with cinnamon sugar and butter.

This is the recipe I used. I used Almond bark for the choc coating. Red velvet cake mix and cream cheese frosting.
If you read down the first 3 or 4 reviews, one gal has a bunch of variations that I copied when I copied the recipe.
Also, I put mine in the freezer as someone suggested, before I dipped them in choc.

It is a tradition in my house that I make haystacks every year for Christmas. In recent years, I haven't made any since I no longer tolerate sugar. HOWEVER... Hershey's now makes a sugar-free dark chocolate chips mmmmmmmm. I haven't had haystacks in 3 years, but I"ll be making them this Friday!

What are haystacks?

Charmed, thanks for the link. My friend had me adding all sorts of different things in when mixing in the cake and icing, and that was probably the problem.

mom'sfolly :

I need those tart recipes. I love tarts. I love mincemeat, but I'm not sure anyone else in the family would eat it.

I make tarts then everybody can have a sample of each. Usually served with whipping cream or vanilla ice cream.
It is home-made mincemeat from green tomatoes. I don't make it but it is good.
The cherry pie filling is homemade too and not by me. I drizzle semi sweet chocolate over the top of the cherry tarts.

Lemon Butter filling (deadly delicious)
- juice of two lemons about 1/2 cup
- zest from two lemons
- 2 cups white sugar
- 4 beaten eggs
- 5 oz Butter in chunks
put in double boiler, whisk constantly until consistency of honey. spoon into unbaked tart shells. cook at 400' until pastry is brown and filling is firm.
When cool squiggle icing across them

Traditional English Butter Tarts
- 1 cup currants simmered in water until soft, drain
add to currants
- 1/2 cup Butter
- 1 cup Brown sugar
- 1 beaten egg
- 1 tsp vanilla
sometimes I add 1/2 cup of shredded coconut
mix together and spoon into unbaked tart shells
400' until pastry is brown and filling is firm

Philly filling for the bottom of the mincemeat tarts (everybody loves the mince tarts with the philly inside)
- 1 pkg Philly Cream Cheese (not the soft kind)
- 1 beaten egg
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 1 cup white sugar
beat together until creamy
put one spoonful into the bottom of unbaked tart shells, add mincemeat on top and cover with a pastry top
Cook at 400' until pastry is browned

We have cut almost all sugar out, except for the occasionl use of Sucanat and Rapadura.

The only sweet we are making this year, is a real Christmas Pudding.
The fruits are soaking in the Brandy right now!

Good for you! and I bet you feel better.
I don't eat what I bake because I cut out sugar too. It is hard to quit thats for sure but the benefits are amazing.

I have only made 2 things so far. Jam thumbprint cookies( strawberry rhubarb) and vanilla kipfle. So far I have used 4 lbs of butter and 2.5 lbs of almonds. So yummy but i am sure so very bad for us. I only make these at Christmas though.
