Oh My Word! I may just have to try this! We have had A LOT of problems here! Molting (well everyone has that), and then right when they were done we ahd a problem with a weasel and they had to stay in a rather small weasel proof coop, temporarally (sp?).... Well, when we couldn't catch the weasel they had to stay in there longer. And laying virtually stopped. They have been in the new coop for 5 days and the MOST that we have gotten is 3 eggs a day...

Is it true that it warms thier insides? So that it feels more like summer to them?!

I get the quart sized plastic bottle of cayenne pepper at Sam's Club and add it to a 50# bag of feed. The pepper powder coats the feed crumbles. I've seen the squirrels nibble at the feeder which hangs underneath the nest boxes of my coop.... they shake their heads in disgust and run off.

I haven't had any drop in egg production even though it's very cold and snowy here. I've been adding cayenne pepper to their feed since I first read about it on BYCF back in early fall. So I can't really tell why they're still laying machines. It could be because they're 9 month old ISA Browns, or the cayenne pepper, or they're getting lots of light...

I told my son I was adding red pepper to the chicken's feed and he wanted to know if he could stop using Tabasco sauce on his scrambled eggs!

It doesn't matter, Maxx. They won't overdose on it. I dump a bottle of it in a bag of feed. I also dump in bottles of other spices, too .... cinnamon, ALL kinds of pepper... black and red pepper, garlic (not garlic SALT), ginger, thyme, curry- turmeric, etc. You can google each spice and read of the benefits (also the benefits of wheat germ and Virgin Olive Oil). When I mix my feed, I take a 5 gallon bucket and put in commercial feed. I add wheat germ oil (or Virgin Olive Oil) to coat it, and then I add a bunch of spices. The spices then stick to the moistened feed. Add cranberries, walnuts, almonds, etc .... they love it all, and it is sooooo healthy for them! Google each one and read the nutritional value these have. Amazing!

Anyway, back to the pepper ..... well, it increases circulation and .... well, just look here....

You mentioned feeding scratch, in your other thread. Think of scratch as candy. It should be limited to less than 10% of the diet, preferably 5%.

Good luck, Maxx. By the way .... nice to see ya back.

Nope, I grew Cayenne peppers this past year and after the tomatoes quite making and I had gotten plenty of peppers by then too, I opened the garden up to the birds and the peppers were still making and the geese, ducks, turkeys, and chickens were eating them and I have been wondering how they stood it but I just learned now on this thread that they dont have the receptors. I havent gotten eggs in a long time either so I may have to try this in the feed too.
